Download or read book Engineering Solutions for Floods and Tsunamis written by Corona Brezina and published by The Rosen Publishing Group, Inc. This book was released on 2019-12-15 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Floods and tsunamis are terrifying and destructive natural disasters caused by the power of water. Humans will probably never be able to prevent floods and tsunamis, but tools provided by STEM fields enable scientists and engineers to mitigate their damage. STEM principles inform every level of flood and tsunami preparedness, from detection or prediction by federal agencies to the recommendations for individuals. This book describes what happens during a natural disaster and engineering solutions including the use of computer models, building of dams, levees, and permeable pavement, and restoring wetlands. All are tremendous solutions to safeguard lives, property, ecosystems, and world economies.
Book Synopsis Tsunami Engineering by : Frederick E. Camfield
Download or read book Tsunami Engineering written by Frederick E. Camfield and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a source of state-of-the-art information on tsunami engineering. The report summarizes available information, identifies gaps in existing knowledge, and discusses methods of predicting tsunami flooding. The generating mechanisms of tsunamis and the method of determining the probability of occurrence are given. Because of the limited data available on tsunamis, numerical methods are commonly used to predict tsunami flooding of coastal areas. Finite-difference equations are presented for simulating the propagation of tsunamis, but computer programs are omitted because of the continuing work in progress and the availability of up-to-date computer programs from other sources. Known mathematical solutions, for tsunamis approaching the shoreline and tsunami-shoreline interaction, are given to illustrate the effects of tsunamis and provide means of verifying numerical results. The report discusses tsunami-structure interaction and illustrates various types of damage caused by tsunamis. (Author).

Download or read book Tsunami: Engineering Perspective For Mitigation, Protection And Modeling written by Vallam Sundar and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most pertinent tsunami related issues such as water borne debris during tsunami flooding, design loads to incorporate for impact forces on coastal zone infrastructure, detection and warning are meticulously incorporated in this book.Modelling of various coastal processes have proven to be successful in the recent past, which includes extreme events such as storm surge, cyclone, etc. The possible provisions for computational/numerical tsunami modelling and real physical modelling in laboratory are elaborated. The propagation, evolution and run-up of tsunami waves and their associated non-linear dynamics are discussed. The significant inferences from the experts who have had hands-on experience working with the extensive magnitude of a tsunami disaster reported on the signature studies and post-facto effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, with respect to the damages along the Indian coast.
