En complément et bien qu'apparaissant quelque peu en marge de ces analyses, mais nécessaire à la compréhension de certaines machines thermiques, un chapitre est dédié à l'étude pratique de la combustion. Enfin, dans le dernier tiers de l'ouvrage consacré aux applications sont analysés, d'une part le fonctionnement des machines hydrauliques et de compression ou détente des gaz, et d'autre part celui des moteurs thermiques et des machines frigorifiques.
