Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of many sciences is characterized by an almost continuous emer gence of new theories. From a normative point of view, the survival of a new theory should mainly be determined by its ability to explain a new body of facts which the existing theories are unable to explain. If in addition the new theory is able to explain all the results obtained by the existing theories and if it can point out why these theories fail to explain certain facts, it should become the dominant theory. Otherwise, it might coexist with other theories for some time. Hence, a new theory ought to be judged not only by confronting it with existing facts, but also by confronting it with existing theories. The idea that a theory should be able to account for the results ob tained by other theories, although implicitly adhered to by many scientists, has rarely been formalized. The statistics literature on parametric hypoth esis testing, though, might be seen as an instance of such a formalization.

Book excerpt: India initiated a significant and impactful period in 2020 when it developed the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This momentous policy was meticulously designed with the overarching goal of enabling students, cultivating ingenuity, and developing versatile individuals who are equipped to confront the complexities of the twenty-first century. NEP 2020 was designed to bring about a comprehensive transformation in the field of education, encompassing early childhood care as well as higher education, by placing significant emphasis on quality, accessibility, and inclusivity. As the groundwork for this audacious policy was established, a necessity arose to thoroughly investigate and comprehend its complexities. Through a comprehensive analysis of NEP 2020, this book endeavors to thoroughly examine its principles, strategies, and potential ramifications. Authors emphasizes the obstacles encountered by the Indian education system and the hopes for a more promising future throughout the text. The authors have extensively examined the fundamental principles that form the basis of the policy's structure, as well as the importance of affordability, accessibility, equity, and quality in cultivating an inclusive educational setting. The subsequent chapters will delve into the precise reforms implemented in higher and primary education as a result of NEP 2020, as well as the endeavors undertaken to safeguard and advance India's diverse array of languages and cultures. The authors additionally analyze the impact of technology on contemporary education and its potential to enrich the process of teaching and learning. Acknowledging the critical impact that educators have on influencing future developments, dialogues should revolve around the measures implemented to empower them and support their ongoing professional growth. Furthermore, this book will provide insight into the policy's dedication to inclusive education, which guarantees that no child is marginalized and that the distinctive capabilities of each person are acknowledged and fostered. As the discourse unfolds, the significance of vocational and skill development will be scrutinized, serving as channels through which students can delve into their areas of interest and aptitudes while equipping them for profitable employment and entrepreneurial endeavors. The implementation of NEP 2020 presents formidable challenges, despite its immense potential. This literary work will forthrightly confront these challenges and provide valuable perspectives on how India can exploit the prospects that arise from this progressive policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most important realist novelists of nineteenth-century Ukraine, Ivan Nechui-Levyts'kyi was caricatured and then forgotten by a generation of literary modernists who rejected his aesthetic and ideological views. In The All-Encompassing Eye of Ukraine, Maxim Tarnawsky presents a thorough and much-needed reexamination of Nechui-Levyts'kyi and his work. A solitary, modest man whose chief interest was in promoting and defending a Ukrainian identity threatened by the cultural policies of the Russian Empire, Levyts'kyi’s writing described Ukraine, its people, its culture, and the forces threatening it. A satirist who attacked modernism and cosmopolitanism, he wrote in a style marked by what Tarnawsky calls non-purposeful narration – slow-paced humour built on rhetorical finesse rather than on plot or character development. A vital reconsideration of a significant Ukrainian novelist written by the foremost expert on his work, The All-Encompassing Eye of Ukraine deepens and expands our understanding of Ukraine’s nineteenth-century literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The All-Encompassing Return of Christ brings fresh perspective to age-old debates surrounding Christ’s return. The return of Christ is a topic of fervent debate within the Christian Church. Although orthodox Christians agree Christ will return, the specifics are confusing and laden with controversy. These divergences can be attributed to differences in biblical presuppositions and interpretative principles. One pivotal point of contention is the interpretation of the “millennium” in Revelation chapter 20. The All-Encompassing Return of Christ presents the amillennialism view as the proper understanding of that chapter, asserting that end times are a singular event. While there are multiple events associated with Christ’s return, they all occur around the time of His second coming. This work provides an insightful introduction to amillennialism, addressing prevalent objections, particularly those arising from the dispensational perspective.

Book excerpt: More than any other part of the Old Testament, the book of Psalms reveals to us the intimacy possible between God and humanity. As songs and prayers of praise and lament, the psalms are unsurpassed in their variety, depth and range. They encompass the whole breadth of human emotion: hatred and love, despair and joy, resentment and gratitude, fear of abandonment and deep trust. They encourage us to be honest and thorough in our dealings with God, and they teach us how to praise him, seek him and rest in him. Using personal anecdote, a witty and lively style, and drawing on his considerable theological knowledge, John Goldingay takes us deep into the unfolding story of the Old Testament.

Book excerpt: From Beijing to Seattle, women's movements within academe and in local-global communities are growing at an unprecedented rate, raising pointed questions about paradigms of Western feminism, development, global trade, and scholarship. Despite this growing visibility, the perspectives of far too many women, especially from the Global South, are still excluded from mainstream U.S. scholarship. Presented with the task of preparing students for life in this new and rapidly shrinking world, many scholars have found themselves overwhelmed by the need to cross disciplinary and geographic borders. But some faculty are leading the way -- often in defiance of academic traditions and prejudices -- to a curriculum that reflects consequences of globalization. Encompassing Gender is the long-awaited anthology of more than 40 essays by 60 scholars, many of them working in curriculum-transformation groups that cut across the humanities, the sciences, and the social sciences, all of them committed to an interdisciplinary approach to internationalizing the curriculum.
