Book Synopsis Economic and Social Perspectives on European Migration by : Francesca Fauri
Download or read book Economic and Social Perspectives on European Migration written by Francesca Fauri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a wide range of migration-related issues in the European context and examines the socioeconomic consequences of migratory flows throughout Europe, focusing on a number of emblematic European countries. The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the tension between migrants and their integration processes in the receiving country, which is deeply influenced by the attitude of the local population and the different approach to highly and less skilled immigrants. The second part analyses the impact of migration on the economic structure of the receiving country, while the third part explores the varying degree of immigrants’ socioeconomic integration in the country of destination. The book offers an essential interdisciplinary contribution to the issue of migration and provides readers with a better understanding of the effects that different forms of migration have had and will continue to exert on economic and social change in host countries. It also examines migration policy issues and builds on historical and empirical case studies with policy recommendations on labour market, integration and welfare policy issues. The book is addressed to a wide audience, including researchers, academics and students of economics, sociology, politics and history, as well as government/EU officials working on migration topics.

Book Synopsis Food in the Migrant Experience by : Anne J. Kershen
Download or read book Food in the Migrant Experience written by Anne J. Kershen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At its most basic, food is vital to our survival there can be no form of life without it. But in economically developed and thriving societies there is more to eating and drinking than just surviving. As the centuries have passed, the marketing, preparation and presentation of food has become an intrinsic part of the modern consumer society. Food operates in the religious sphere too, with consumption and abstinence playing their part in religious ritual whilst methods of animal slaughter have moved into the political, as well as the religious arena. Food not only sustains the migrant on both the real and metaphorical journey from home to elsewhere, it also provides a bridge between the familiar and the unfamiliar. Food acts as a catalyst for cultural fusion and excitement but it can also endanger: change of diet all too frequently creating as many health problems as it resolves. Its multi-disciplinary nature enables Food in the Migrant Experience to address all the above issues in chapters written by leading academics in the fields of migration, economics, nutrition, medicine and history. As we continue to explore the minutiae of the immigrant experience, this book will be essential reading to all those engaged in the study of migration.

Download or read book Affective Encounters written by Di Wu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-17 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the background of China's rapidly growing, and sometimes highly controversial, activities in Africa, this book is among the first of its kind to systematically document Sino-African interactions at the everyday level. Based on sixteen months of ethnographic fieldwork at two contrasting sites in Lusaka, Zambia—a Chinese state-sponsored educational farm and a private Chinese family farm—Di Wu focuses on daily interactions among Chinese migrants and their Zambian hosts. Daily communicative events, e.g. banquets, market negotiations, work-place disputes, and various social encounters across a range of settings are used to trace the essential role that emotion/affect plays in forming and reproducing social relations and group identities among Chinese migrants. Wu suggests that affective encounters in everyday situations—as well as failed attempts to generate affect—should not be overlooked in order to fully appreciate Sino-African interactions. Deeply researched and with rich ethnographic detail, this book will be relevant to scholars of anthropology, international development, and others interested in Sino-African relations.
China-Europe-Africa Trilateral Cooperation: A Feasibility Study by : 周瑾艳著
Download or read book China-Europe-Africa Trilateral Cooperation: A Feasibility Study written by 周瑾艳著 and published by BEIJING BOOK CO. INC.. This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
