Book Synopsis Imaging Radar for Resources Surveys by : J.W. Trevett
Download or read book Imaging Radar for Resources Surveys written by J.W. Trevett and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of air photographs as an aid to understanding and mapping natural resources has long been an established technique. The advent of satellite imagery was, and indeed by many still is, regarded as a very high altitude air photograph, but with the introduction of digital techniques the full analysis of imagery has become very sophisticated. Radar imagery presents the resource scientist with a new imaging technique that has to be understood and used, a technique which, although in many respects still in its infancy, has considerable applications potential for resources studies. Remote sensing now forms an element in study courses in the earth sciences in many major universities and a number of universities offer specialist post-graduate courses in remote sensing. Nevertheless there are a large number of earth scientists already working with imagery who have progressed from the air photograph base to satellite imagery. Such scientists may find themselves confronted with microwave or radar imagery or wish to use the imagery for surveys and find themselves hindered by a lack of understanding of the differences between radar imagery and optical imagery. Unfortunately reference to much of the literature will not be of very great help, many excellent text books on the theory and interaction of microwaves, on instrument design and construction and on the research carried out on specific target types exist, most of these are however written for specialists who are usually physicists not earth scientists.

Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Surface Waves by : John Polo
Download or read book Electromagnetic Surface Waves written by John Polo and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, the surface-plasmon-polariton wave guided by the interface of simple isotropic materials dominated the scene. However, in recent times research on electromagnetic surface waves guided by planar interfaces has expanded into new and exciting areas. In the 1990's research focused on advancing knowledge of the newly discovered Dyakonov wave. More recently, much of the surface wave research is motivated by the proliferation of nanotechnology and the growing number of materials available with novel properties. This book leads the reader from the relatively simple surface-plasmon-polariton wave with isotropic materials to the latest research on various types of electromagnetic surface waves guided by the interfaces of complex materials enabled by recent developments in nanotechnology. This includes: Dyakonov waves guided by interfaces formed with columnar thin films, Dyakonov-Tamm waves guided by interfaces formed with sculptured thin films, and multiple modes of surface-plasmon-polariton waves guided by the interface of a metal and a periodically varying dielectric material. - Gathers research from the past 5 years in a single comprehensive view of electromagnetic surface waves. - Written by the foremost experts and researchers in the field. - Layered presentation explains topics with an introductory overview level up to a highly technical level.

Book Synopsis EM Propagation Characteristics of Surface Materials and Interface Aspects by : H. J. Albrecht
Download or read book EM Propagation Characteristics of Surface Materials and Interface Aspects written by H. J. Albrecht and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the field of electromagnetic wave propagation, essential limiting conditions may be represented by characteristics and behavior of boundaries of the propagation environment. The performance of propagation paths may depend significantly upon variations in such surface properties. A Specialist's Meeting was particularly concerned with surface characteristics and accounted for the increasing importance of appropriate parameters for a number of modern fields of research and engineering applications, such as remote sensing and surveillance, target recognition, sub-surface propagation, etc. Sessions dealt with EM surface characteristics, propagation in interface media, and global distribution of EM surface characteristics. Material presented and discussed was supplemented by a round-table discussion. The meeting provided a review of the state of the art in the field of research, discussed theoretical and engineering aspects, and indicated promising areas of research. Papers and discussion material in this publication were presented at the Specialists' Meeting of the AGARD Electromagnetic Wave Propagation Panel on EM Propagation Characteristics of Surface Materials and Interface Aspects held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 18th and 19th October 1976.

Download or read book Radar Principles written by Nadav Levanon and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1988-05-19 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An advanced treatment of the main concepts of radar. Systematic andorganized, it nicely balances readability with mathematical rigor. Many techniques and examples have been chosen from the radarindustry (Rayleigh fluctuating targets are used as they yieldsimple expressions for the probability of detection), and othersfor their pedagogical value (Costas signals lead the coded radarsignals because their ambiguity function can be intuitivelydeduced). Ordered statistics is covered in more depth than otherCFAR techniques because its performance can be obtainedanalytically without resorting to simulation methods. Contains manyexercises. An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all theproblems in the book is available from the Wiley editorialdepartment.
