Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A man in white... A stranger at the Kotel... A mysterious doctor... A life-saving dream... In a moment of need, a stranger appears, offers help, and then disappears, as if by magic. These are encounters with Elijah the Prophet, who, in the Jewish tradition, never died, but still roams the world, helping, teaching, and admonishing people. Meeting Elijah is a collection of amazing real-life encounters with Elijah - Eliyahu Hanavi - heard directly from the people involved or close friends and relatives. In other stories, we see how the "Spirit of Elijah" can move in and through people, bringing them to the right place at the right time, in order to help and deliver others, even without their own awareness. In all cases, these stories reveal the remarkable level of Divine providence that we can experience in our lives, at any moment and in any place. The stories in this volume are surprising, inexplicable, and inspiring. They remind us that the world is a mysterious place, and that God's deliverance can occur in the blink of an eye.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is concerned with a so called ethical midrash, Seder Eliyahu (also known as Tanna debe Eliyahu), a post-talmudic work probably composed in the ninth century. It provides a survey of the research on this late midrash followed by five studies of different aspects related to what is designated as the work’s narratology. These include a discussion of the problem of the apparent pseudo-epigraphy of the work and of the multiple voices of the text; a description of the various narrative types which the work, itself as a whole of non-narrative character, makes use of; a detailed treatment of Seder Eliyahu’s parables and most characteristic first person narratives (an extremely unusual form of narrative discourse in rabbinic literature); as well as a final chapter dedicated to selected women stories in this late midrash. As it emerges from the survey in chapter 1 such a narratologically informed study of Seder Eliyahu represents a new approach in the research on a work that is clearly the product of a time of transition in Jewish literature.

Book excerpt: Tznius -- modesty -- is an integral facet of Jewish life. In a world where modesty is recognized more by its absence than by its presence, there has never been a greater need for a definitive work on this vital quality. But what precisely are the laws of modesty, what are its parameters, where are its applications? In this long-awaited work, the laws and ideology of modesty are tackled in an exhaustive and comprehensive manner. All the laws of Tznius, whether in dress or behavior, speech and social interaction, are collated and explained in the clear and lucid manner that is characteristic of the author. -- Back cover.

Book excerpt: San Francisco contractor Mel Turner is leading a volunteer home renovation project, and while she expects lots of questions from her inexperienced crew, she can't help asking a few of her own--especially about the haunted house next door . . . the place local kids call the Murder House. But when volunteers discover a body while cleaning out a shed, questions pile up faster than discarded lumber. Mel notices signs of ghostly activity next door and she wonders: Are the Murder House ghosts reaching out to her for help, or has the house claimed another victim? Now, surprised to find herself as the SFPD's unofficial "ghost consultant," Mel must investigate murders both past and present before a spooky killer finishes another job.
