Including clear strategies on everything from being a hero to your kids to communication to discipline, this is the one book fathers will ever need. It's encouraging and affirming and to the point, with comments like: 'Men are such a necessary part of the parenting team because they believe in the three Rs: Rules, Routines, Ridiculousness.' Fathers Who Dare Win was first self-published in 2000, and now Ian Grant has updated and revised it for today's generation of fathers. Much of the original content remains highly relevant but there are new aspects for today's fathers to deal with — the internet, Facebook and Twitter; strategies for the estranged dad; the importance of a father in his daughter's life, and in his son's life; smart strategies for how to love the mother of your children; and much more. In Ian's characteristic straight-talking way he offers lots of advice, tips and strategies for being the best father you can. Ian speaks from experience as the father of three and grandfather of eleven, but he also mines the research to deliver well founded and practical advice.

Dadskills delivers simple, hard-hitting tips and advice in a witty, fun, and easily digestible format. This handy, amusing book is perfect for the busy guy who has his eye on the “Father of the Year” award. Organized by the child’s stage and age range, each chapter covers essential insights and techniques to keeping kids happy, safe, healthy…and stopping them from torturing their parents. Dealing with Toddlers: Equip yourself to fight night terrors, learn how to manage tantrums, and make your way through the winding path from crawling to walking. The Single-Digit Challenge: Prime your kid to be a super student with a custom geography relief map, find tips for building self confidence, and embrace fun by learning how to make the perfect sandcastle. Managing Tweens: Get everyone on the same page by creating a calendar everyone will actually use and learn how to get a tween cooking with easy and fun recipes. Taming Teenagers: Everything you should know before having "the talk," how to build skills through chores or a first job, and how to teach a teen to drive in four easy steps. Prepping for the Empty Nest: Tips for staying connected (but not too connected), cherishing memories with a tasteful craft project, and quick and easy ways to redesign a former kid's room. Can this book prepare you for all the challenges of fatherhood? Probably not! But every bit helps and you're sure to learn a lesson or twelve that comes in handy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Most men spend very little time pondering the question, Am I doing the right things to become a great dad? This book addresses this most important question in a profound way. It's filled with personal stories, focused on powerful principles, and is written for real people. We all know how easy it is, biologically, to become a father. What we often don't realize is that it takes work, dedication, and learned skills to become a dad, especially a great dad." - From the foreword by Jack Canfield, Co-Creator, #1 New York Times best selling series Chicken Soup for the Soul (r) In How to Be a Great Dad, you will learn: The 15-day Great Dad Challenge that transforms fathers into dads. Why dads matter way more than you may think. The lifelong impact fathers have on their children. The three simple and strategic skills to great dad success that all dads can master. Why bad or absent dads can land kids in prison. How to become the father you wish you'd had. Why "father nurture" is as important as "mother nurture." Why saying "I'm proud of you" makes all the difference. Why "I'll love you no matter what" means so much to your kids. Why a hug is not "just a hug" when it comes from Dad. How to build your kids' self-esteem. How to give what you may not have received. A doable process to overcome hurts or limitations from the past. Neil Chethik, executive director of The Carnegie Center, writes, "Keith Zafren is an inspiring guide on this adventure into the heart of fathering. Read this book. It will make you a better dad, and it may even help you forgive your own father for the mistakes he inevitably made." Neil Chethik Executive Director, The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning Author, FatherLoss and VoiceMale "WOW!!! 'Healing a Father Wound' was by far the most impactful and emotional section of any book I have ever read. I can't even describe how deeply this teaching affected me. The feeling of 'choked up' stayed throughout reading the section, and keeps coming back even now. I realized clearly how my own father wound has affected my entire life, and still does to this day. It also made me realize how the healing process is a daily reward to me and my boys, and so worth the effort. My heart was smiling while my eyes filled with tears. Awesome book!" The impact you have on them as their dad will last a lifetime. I's a challenging time in history to be a father. The quality of what we bring as fathers is grounded in who we are as men; yet the role of men and the definition of masculinity has never been so unclear. Dad addresses this challenge directly. Well researched and filled with personal stories, quotes and anecdotes, many from the author's own fatherhood journey, DAD is both practical and inspiring. It is refreshing to accept being human; flawed, challenged, and in need of consistent supervision. I am not a father yet, but this book solidified and validated my obsessive approach towards the all-important role of fatherhood. A great read, and filled with wonderful anecdotes that make you laugh, think, and cry." - Dr Khozhi Makai, Author, Social Scientist, Motivational Coach, Founding CEO of Kozhi Makai Worldwide About the Author: Craig Wilkinson is a bestselling South African author, sought-after speaker and consultant who is passionate about equipping men to be great fathers and leaders. Book excerpt: Directed specifically at men, A Man's Greatest Challenge recognises the pivotal role that men play in parenting. Parenting is one of the hardest and most rewarding of human endeavours. Unlike the simple task of driving a car, there is no licensure, no road test, no "rules of the road" manual required to begin, and sadly many men today are giving up in this endeavour. Our world is suffering from an ever increasing crisis in terms of fatherlessness which many experts say is the most harmful demographic trend of this generation. I believe that being a father is the greatest challenge and the most rewarding task of a man's life. Drawing on my personal experiences as a father, teacher, minister and a youth worker across a wide range of environments/situations in several different countries, in this book I share some of the insights, keys and principles that I have observed, learned and practiced. I have endeavoured to present them in an effective, easy-to-follow format that I believe will help you as a man to become an effective father. Some of the things I address are: - The effects of fatherlessness in our society. - The fundamental requirements for being an effective father. - Six basic keys or principles that form the pattern for fathering and how to apply them. - Understanding the differences between your children and helping you to father them as individuals. - Dealing with the unexpected. - Identifying the 5 major areas that can derail you as a father. As a father the efforts you make are important. While you and your children are unique the challenges that you face as a father are not unique. As fathers we are all in the same 'fight'; we are all walking out a similar journey and we are all in the process of learning and growing. None of us have arrived, but we can all learn from one another and together we can make a positive change in our society. Whatever your background or past experiences, you can be an effective father! You can be a man that makes a positive impact not only your own children but on the generations to come. Fathering is your greatest challenge, but you can succeed. At times it is hard work, but it is worth it all.
