Book Synopsis Magnetochemistry by : Richard L. Carlin
Download or read book Magnetochemistry written by Richard L. Carlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about things in magnetism that interest me. I think that these are important things which will interest a number of other chemists. The restriction is important, because it is difficult to write well about those things which are less familiar to an author. In general, the chemistry and physics of coordination compounds are what this book is about. Magnetochemistry is the study of the ground states of metal ions. When the ions are not interacting, then the study of single-ion phenomena is called paramagnetism. When the metal ions interact, then we are concerned with collective phenomena such as occur in long-range ordering. Several years ago, Hans van Duyneveldt and I published a book that explored these subjects in detail. Since that time, the field has grown tremendously, and there has been a need to bring the book up to date. Furthermore, I have felt that it would be useful to include more subsidiary material to make the work more useful as a textbook. This book is the result of those feelings of mine.
Book Synopsis The F Elements by : Nikolas Kaltsoyannis
Download or read book The F Elements written by Nikolas Kaltsoyannis and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lanthanides and actinides (the f elements) are rarely studied in detail by chemistry undergraduates. More often they appear as an afterthought in bonding, spectroscopy, magnetism, coordination chemistry, and organometallics courses. This is largely because of a lack of an accessible text treating the chemistry of these elements in one cover. Moreover, the placement of lanthanides and actinides in the closing pages of standard inorganic chemistry text books serves to marginalise these elements further. The f elements has therefore been written to fill a gap in the undergraduate chemistry textbook market. It covers much of the fundamental chemistry of the lanthanide and actinide elements, including coordination chemistry, solid state compounds, organometallic chemistry, electronic spectroscopy, and magnetism. Many comparisons are made between the chemistry of the lanthanides and actinides and that of the transition elements, which is generally much more familiar to undergraduate chemistry students. The book uses the chemistry of the f elements as a vehicle for the communication of several important chemical concepts that are not usually discussed in detail in undergraduate courses, for example the chemical consequences of relativity and the lanthanide and actinide contractions. Many important modern applications of f element chemistry, e.g. the use of actinides in nuclear power generation and of the lanthanides in magnetic resonance imaging and catalytic converters in motor vehicle exhausts, are also discussed in depth.

Book Synopsis Lanthanide Single Molecule Magnets by : Jinkui Tang
Download or read book Lanthanide Single Molecule Magnets written by Jinkui Tang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins by providing basic information on single-molecule magnets (SMMs), covering the magnetism of lanthanide, the characterization and relaxation dynamics of SMMs and advanced means of studying lanthanide SMMs. It then systematically introduces lanthanide SMMs ranging from mononuclear and dinuclear to polynuclear complexes, classifying them and highlighting those SMMs with high barrier and blocking temperatures – an approach that provides some very valuable indicators for the structural features needed to optimize the contribution of an Ising type spin to a molecular magnet. The final chapter presents some of the newest developments in the lanthanide SMM field, such as the design of multifunctional and stimuli-responsive magnetic materials as well as the anchoring and organization of the SMMs on surfaces. In addition, the crystal structure and magnetic data are clearly presented with a wealth of illustrations in each chapter, helping newcomers and experts alike to better grasp ongoing trends and explore new directions. Jinkui Tang is a professor at Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Peng Zhang is currently pursuing his PhD at Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a specific focus on the molecular magnetism of lanthanide compounds under the supervision of Prof. Jinkui Tang.
Book Synopsis Microwave Properties of Magnetic Films by : C. Vittoria
Download or read book Microwave Properties of Magnetic Films written by C. Vittoria and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous works on this subject tended to be too specialised, making it difficult for students who lack the necessary background in this subject to follow. This book attempts to remedy the situation by providing students from other disciplines the basic background necessary to understand the discussion in this book. In this way, it provides a bridge between basic science and applications/course work. The book begins by presenting the fundamental principles of microwave materials using electrical engineering terminology, hence providing the necessary background before it discusses well-known physical concepts or solid state. Having reviewed the basic concepts, it goes on to discuss a systematic procedure of describing the microwave properties of materials. The organised and comprehensive nature of the book makes it a very useful reading and reference source.
Book Synopsis Magnetism and Transition Metal Complexes by : F. E. Mabbs
Download or read book Magnetism and Transition Metal Complexes written by F. E. Mabbs and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents a detailed view of the calculation methods involved in the magnetic properties of transition metal complexes. Starting at an elementary level, it proceeds gradually through theory and calculations to offer sufficient background for original work in the field. No specialized knowledge of magnetism is assumed in the introductory chapters, which offer basic definitions and generalizations of magnetic behavior and briefly review both crystal field theory and perturbation theory. Succeeding chapters explore calculations of the magnetic properties of cubic and axially distorted complexes. Featuring the complete calculation for spin-orbit coupling and magnetic field perturbations for one d-configuration, the text also discusses derivations and results for other configurations. Other topics include the magnetism of polynuclear species, in which antiferromagnetic ordering occurs over small numbers of centers. Detailed calculations by the dipolar coupling approach are given, and the results are applied to a number of studies from the literature.

Book Synopsis Rare Earth Magnetism by : Jens Jensen
Download or read book Rare Earth Magnetism written by Jens Jensen and published by . This book was released on 1991-06-13 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a unified and coherent account of an important, focused area of rare-earth magnetism -- magnetic structures and excitations -- which both reflects the nature of the fundamental magnetic interactions and determines many of the characteristic properties of metals. The authors concentrate on the essential principles and their applications to typical examples, generally restricting the discussion to the pure elements and considering alloys and compounds only when they are instructive in illuminating particular topics. Both authors have been involved for some time in the effort that has been made in Denmark to study, both theoretically and experimentally, the magnetic structures and especially the excitations in the rare earths. This account of the subject represents the result of their experience, and it has been written in the hope that it will be useful not only to those who have a special interest in rare-earth magnetism, but also to a wider audience of physicists and condensed matter scientists interested in the techniques and achievements of modern research in magnetism.
