This book was released on 2010-10-06 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Together with the companion volume by the same author, Operators, Functions, and Systems: An Easy Reading. Volume 1: Hardy, Hankel, and Toeplitz, Mathematical Surveys and Monographs, Vol. 92, AMS, 2002, this unique work combines four major topics of modern analysis and its applications: A. Hardy classes of holomorphic functions, B. Spectral theory of Hankel and Toeplitz operators, C. Function models for linear operators and free interpolations, and D. Infinite-dimensional system theory and signal processing. This volume contains Parts C and D. Function models for linear operators and free interpolations: This is a universal topic and, indeed, is the most influential operator theory technique in the post-spectral-theorem era. In this book, its capacity is tested by solving generalized Carleson-type interpolation problems. Infinite-dimensional system theory and signal processing: This topic is the touchstone of the three previously developed techniques. The presence of this applied topic in a pure mathematics environment reflects important changes in the mathematical landscape of the last 20 years, in that the role of the main consumer and customer of harmonic, complex, and operator analysis has more and more passed from differential equations, scattering theory, and probability to control theory and signal processing. This and the companion volume are geared toward a wide audience of readers, from graduate students to professional mathematicians. They develop an elementary approach to the subject while retaining an expert level that can be applied in advanced analysis and selected applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays, tensors play a central role for the representation, mining, analysis, and fusion of multidimensional, multimodal, and heterogeneous big data in numerous fields. This set on Matrices and Tensors in Signal Processing aims at giving a self-contained and comprehensive presentation of various concepts and methods, starting from fundamental algebraic structures to advanced tensor-based applications, including recently developed tensor models and efficient algorithms for dimensionality reduction and parameter estimation. Although its title suggests an orientation towards signal processing, the results presented in this set will also be of use to readers interested in other disciplines. This first book provides an introduction to matrices and tensors of higher-order based on the structures of vector space and tensor space. Some standard algebraic structures are first described, with a focus on the hilbertian approach for signal representation, and function approximation based on Fourier series and orthogonal polynomial series. Matrices and hypermatrices associated with linear, bilinear and multilinear maps are more particularly studied. Some basic results are presented for block matrices. The notions of decomposition, rank, eigenvalue, singular value, and unfolding of a tensor are introduced, by emphasizing similarities and differences between matrices and tensors of higher-order.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of inclusion of local effects in the analysis of structures is currently one of prime importance for engineering design. The classical computational approaches are not readily adapted to take local effects into account and appropriate treatments are therefore necessary. Providing an introduction to and survey of the specific computational methods, this book contains 16 papers, most of which were presented at the EUROMECH Colloquium `Inclusion of Local Effects in the Analysis of Structures', held in France in 1984. The book begins with the various theories which allow the separation and determination of local and global effects. The next group of papers discuss edge effects for composite structures. The third part comprises two papers concerning dynamic problems and points the way towards non-conventional local effects in structural mechanics. The last part deals with general numerical methods, especially for effects due to large local variations of geometry.

Finally we discuss the estimation, identification and synthesis of control laws for the purpose of stabilization and regulation. The study of signal characteristics and properties systems and knowledge of mathematical tools and treatment methods and analysis, are lately more and more importance and continue to evolve. The reason is that the current state of technology, particularly electronics and computing, enables the production of very advanced processing systems, effective and less expensive despite the complexity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive, graduate-level treatment of analog and digital signal analysis suitable for course use and self-guided learning. This expert text guides the reader from the basics of signal theory through a range of application tools for use in acoustic analysis, geophysics, and data compression. Each concept is introduced and explained step by step, and the necessary mathematical formulae are integrated in an accessible and intuitive way. The first part of the book explores how analog systems and signals form the basics of signal analysis. This section covers Fourier series and integral transforms of analog signals, Laplace and Hilbert transforms, the main analog filter classes, and signal modulations. Part II covers digital signals, demonstrating their key advantages. It presents z and Fourier transforms, digital filtering, inverse filters, deconvolution, and parametric modeling for deterministic signals. Wavelet decomposition and reconstruction of non-stationary signals are also discussed. The third part of the book is devoted to random signals, including spectral estimation, parametric modeling, and Tikhonov regularization. It covers statistics of one and two random variables and the principles and methods of spectral analysis. Estimation of signal properties is discussed in the context of ergodicity conditions and parameter estimations, including the use of Wiener and Kalman filters. Two appendices cover the basics of integration in the complex plane and linear algebra. A third appendix presents a basic Matlab toolkit for computer signal analysis. This expert text provides both a solid theoretical understanding and tools for real-world applications.

Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with basic tools to solve problems of electromagnetism in their natural functional frameworks thanks to modern mathematical methods: integral surface methods, and also semigroups, variational methods, etc., well adapted to a numerical approach. As examples of applications of these tools and concepts, we solve several fundamental problems of electromagnetism, stationary or time-dependent: scattering of an incident wave by an obstacle, bounded or not, by gratings; wave propagation in a waveguide, with junctions and cascades. We hope that mathematical notions will allow a better understanding of modelization in electromagnetism and emphasize the essential features related to the geometry and nature of materials.

Book excerpt: This is an analysis of multidimensional nonlinear dissipative Hamiltonian dynamical systems subjected to parametric and external stochastic excitations by the Fokker-Planck equation method. The author answers three types of questions concerning this area. First, what probabilistic tools are necessary for constructing a stochastic model and deriving the FKP equation for nonlinear stochastic dynamical systems? Secondly, what are the main results concerning the existence and uniqueness of an invariant measure and its associated stationary response? Finally, what is the class of multidimensional dynamical systems that have an explicit invariant measure and what are the fundamental examples for applications?
