Book Synopsis Pricing and Revenue Optimization by : Robert Phillips
Download or read book Pricing and Revenue Optimization written by Robert Phillips and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2005-08-05 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive introduction to the concepts, theories, and applications of pricing and revenue optimization. From the initial success of "yield management" in the commercial airline industry down to more recent successes of markdown management and dynamic pricing, the application of mathematical analysis to optimize pricing has become increasingly important across many different industries. But, since pricing and revenue optimization has involved the use of sophisticated mathematical techniques, the topic has remained largely inaccessible to students and the typical manager. With methods proven in the MBA courses taught by the author at Columbia and Stanford Business Schools, this book presents the basic concepts of pricing and revenue optimization in a form accessible to MBA students, MS students, and advanced undergraduates. In addition, managers will find the practical approach to the issue of pricing and revenue optimization invaluable. Solutions to the end-of-chapter exercises are available to instructors who are using this book in their courses. For access to the solutions manual, please contact [email protected].

Book Synopsis Wired for Innovation by : Erik Brynjolfsson
Download or read book Wired for Innovation written by Erik Brynjolfsson and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two experts on the information economy explore the true economic value of technology and innovation. A wave of business innovation is driving the productivity resurgence in the U.S. economy. In Wired for Innovation, Erik Brynjolfsson and Adam Saunders describe how information technology directly or indirectly created this productivity explosion, reversing decades of slow growth. They argue that the companies with the highest level of returns to their technology investment are doing more than just buying technology; they are inventing new forms of organizational capital to become digital organizations. These innovations include a cluster of organizational and business-process changes, including broader sharing of information, decentralized decision-making, linking pay and promotions to performance, pruning of non-core products and processes, and greater investments in training and education. Innovation continues through booms and busts. This book provides an essential guide for policy makers and economists who need to understand how information technology is transforming the economy and how it will create value in the coming decade.

Book Synopsis Work-Related Learning by : Jan N. Streumer
Download or read book Work-Related Learning written by Jan N. Streumer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-14 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work-related learning can be broadly seen to be concerned with all forms of education and training closely related to the daily work of (new) employees, and is increasingly playing a central role in the lives of individuals, groups or teams and the agenda’s of organizations. However, as this area of study becomes more prominent, debates have opened about the nature of the field, as well as about its configurations and effects. For example, some authors have a broad definition of WRL and define it as learning for work, at work and through work, ranging from formal, through semi-structured to informal learning. Others prefer to use the concept of WRL mainly in connection to informal, incidental learning processes during work, leading to competent workplace learners. Formal and informal learning are distinguished from each other with respect to the level of intention (implicit/non-intentional/incidental versus deliberative/intentional/structured). Another point of discussion originates from the different ‘theoretical backgrounds’ of the authors: the ‘learning theorists’ versus the ‘organizational theorists’. The first group is mainly interested in the question of how learning comes about; the second group is predominantly interested in the search for factors affecting learning.

Book excerpt: It is critical to improve the asset management system implementation as well as economics and industrial decision making to ensure that a business may move smoothly internally. Maintenance management should be aligned to the activities of maintenance in accordance with key business strategies, which must be designed under the comprehensive approach of an asset management process. After transforming the priorities of the business into priorities of maintenance, maintenance managers will use their medium-team strategies to tackle potential weaknesses in the maintenance of the equipment in accordance with these objectives. Cases on Optimizing the Asset Management Process explains and summarizes the processes and the reference frame necessary for the implementation of the Maintenance Management Model (MMM). This book acts as an overview of the current state of the art in asset management, providing innovative tools and practices from the fourth industrial revolution. Presenting topics like criticality analysis, physical asset maintenance, and unified modelling language, this text is essential for industrial and manufacturing engineers, plant supervisors, academicians, researchers, advanced-level students, technology developers, and managers who make decisions in this field.
