Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Problems in Elementary Woodworking: Graded for Instruction by the Group Method The usual practice in elementary manual training has been to omit all strictly exercise pieces. However, the author's experience has been that a preliminary exercise embracing the fundamental tools and proc esses at the beginning Of a course, while the interest is naturally fresh, is very helpful, insuring far better work than when it is omitted. In, fact, the exercise here given has been used by the author with splendid results at the beginning of every year in every course in hand woodworking, whether the pupil had previous experience or not. To say the least, a good exercise is a splendid brief review of tools and processes which form the basis for all later work. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Woodwork for Use in Manual Training Classes As each tool is taken up, the pupil should turn to part III and study carefully what is said about that particular tool; and each day, until the lessons are mastered, review what is said in regard to the use of the tools in the lessons and also the description of the tools in part III. Each new lesson depends very largely upon those' preceding. Therefore, only by a constant review will the pupil get the greatest possible benefit from his study. Although the directions are quite explicit, an abun dance of Opportunity is left for individuality in work. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Woodwork for Secondary Schools a Text-Book for High Schools and Colleges, Prevocational and Elementary Industrial Schools The use of woodworking machines, with the exception of the lathe, by large classes of freshmen is not recom mended. The chapter On Woodworking Machines is in cluded in the text for the use of such classes as can be organized with sufficiently small numbers to allow the instructor to give close and continuous attention to the machines. There is no reason, however, why much Of such matter may not be read and studied by freshmen as they secure shop experience with the hand tools. A freshman who does not expect to take advanced shopwork in wood will be profited by knowing how much Of his hand tool work is duplicated by machines in a way which makes possible cheaper and, if well done, equally good pro duction. It has been found impracticable to treat the subject of Carpentry as a chapter Of this text. Then, too, because of physical limitations, carpentry can hardly find a place so nearly universal in the general school curriculum as the more strictly bench subjects. For these reasons carpentry has been treated by the author in a separate text. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
