This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is an electron paramagnetic resonance study of the mixed ammonium chloride-iodide host crystal doped with divalent manganese. The studies presented here were carried out at X-band and Q-band microwave frequencies, and at various microwave cavity temperatures. The resonance spectrum of this crystal is described by a set of spin-Hamiltonian parameters, whose parameters are determined by fitting the various resonance line positions obtained for several angular orientations of the magnetic field relative to the crystal axes. A set of initial parameters is then determined by second-order perturbation theory. These are then rigorously evaluated by a computer subroutine using the least-squares-fitting technique. The spectra obtained through angular variation of the crystal within the static magnetic field confirm the cubic symmetry of the crystal, and the existence of three magnetically equivalent sites having their axes along the [100], [010], and [001] directions. The final set of spin-Hamiltonian parameters were interpreted using the superposition model, which is a mathematical approach used to evaluate the intrinsic parameters of the crystal, based on the sum of nearest neighbor ligand contributions.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances In Density Functional Methods, Part Ii by : Delano Pun Chong
Download or read book Recent Advances In Density Functional Methods, Part Ii written by Delano Pun Chong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-05-14 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of all the different areas in computational chemistry, density functional theory (DFT) enjoys the most rapid development. Even at the level of the local density approximation (LDA), which is computationally less demanding, DFT can usually provide better answers than Hartree-Fock formalism for large systems such as clusters and solids. For atoms and molecules, the results from DFT often rival those obtained by ab initio quantum chemistry, partly because larger basis sets can be used. Such encouraging results have in turn stimulated workers to further investigate the formal theory as well as the computational methodology of DFT.This Part II expands on the methodology and applications of DFT. Some of the chapters report on the latest developments (since the publication of Part I in 1995), while others extend the applications to wider range of molecules and their environments. Together, this and other recent review volumes on DFT show that DFT provides an efficient and accurate alternative to traditional quantum chemical methods. Such demonstration should hopefully stimulate frutiful developments in formal theory, better exchange-correlation functionals, and linear scaling methodology.

Book Synopsis Biogenic Nano-Particles and their Use in Agro-ecosystems by : Mansour Ghorbanpour
Download or read book Biogenic Nano-Particles and their Use in Agro-ecosystems written by Mansour Ghorbanpour and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several nano-scale devices have emerged that are capable of analysing plant diseases, nutrient deficiencies and any other ailments that may affect food security in agro-ecosystems. It has been envisioned that smart delivery systems can be developed and utilised for better management of agricultural ecosystems. These systems could exhibit beneficial, multi-functional characteristics, which could be used to assess and also control habitat-imposed stresses to crops. Nanoparticle-mediated smart delivery systems can control the delivery of nutrients or bioactive and/or pesticide molecules in plants. It has been suggested that nano-particles in plants might help determine their nutrient status and could also be used as cures in agro-ecosystems. Further, to enhance soil and crop productivity, nanotechnology has been used to create and deliver nano fertilizers, which can be defined as nano-particles that directly help supply nutrients for plant growth and soil productivity. Nano-particles can be absorbed onto clay networks, leading to improved soil health and more efficient nutrient use by crops. Additionally, fertilizer particles can be coated with nano-particles that facilitate slow and steady release of nutrients, reducing loss of nutrients and enhancing their efficiency in agri-crops. Although the use of nanotechnology in agro-ecosystems is still in its early stages and needs to be developed further, nano-particle-mediated delivery systems are promising solutions for the successful management of agri-ecosystems. In this context, the book offers insights into nanotechnology in agro-ecosystems with reference to biogenic nanoparticles. It highlights the: • occurrence and diversity of Biogenic Nanoparticles • mechanistic approach involved in the synthesis of biogenic nanoparticles • synthesis of nanoparticles using photo-activation, and their fate in the soil ecosystem • potential applications of nanoparticles in agricultural systems • application and biogenic synthesis of gold nanoparticles and their characterization • impact of biogenic nanoparticles on biotic stress to plants • mechanistic approaches involved in the antimicrobial effects and cytotoxicity of biogenic nanoparticles • role of biogenic nanoparticles in plant diseases management • relevance of biological synthesized nanoparticles in the longevity of agricultural crops • design and synthesis of nano-biosensors for monitoring pollutants in water, soil and plant systems • applications of nanotechnology in agriculture with special refer to soil, water and plant sciences A useful resource for postgraduate and research students in the field of plant and agricultural sciences, it is also of interest to researchers working in nano and biotechnology.

This book was released on 2004 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Report No. 147 (2004) presents recommendations and technical information related to the design and installation of structural shielding for facilities that use x rays for medical imaging. The purpose of structural shielding is to limit radiation exposure to employees and members of the public. The information supersedes the recommendations that address such facilities in NCRP Report No. 49, Structural Shielding Design and Evaluation for Medical Use of X Rays and Gamma Rays of Energies Up to 10 MeV, which was issued in September 1976. NCRP Report No. 147 includes a discussion of the various factors to be considered in the selection of appropriate shielding materials and in the calculation of barrier thicknesses. The Report presents the fundamentals of radiation shielding, discusses shielding design goals for controlled and uncontrolled areas in or near x-ray imaging facilities and defines the relationship of these goals to the NCRP effective dose limits for radiation workers and members of the public. The Report includes a detailed discussion of the recommended shielding design methodology for x-ray imaging facilities and provides an extensive collection of shielding data and sample shielding calculations for various types of x-ray imaging facilities. The Report is mainly intended for those individuals who specialize in radiation protection. However, it will also be of interest to architects, hospital administrators and related professionals concerned with the planning of new facilities that use x rays for medical imaging.
