It is a practical and well-illustrated book representing a collection of interesting, common and unusual tumors for a diagnostic exercise by the reader. The wide reception of the first edition by the pathology community is testament to its relevance and utility in the pathologic diagnosis of pediatric brain tumors. This edition covers topics ranging from neuroimaging, the use of crush and touch preps during intraoperative consultation, classic histological features of pediatric brain tumors, tumor variants, and a miscellaneous group of challenging tumors. Chapters consist of essential diagnostic information and features highlighting recognized variants and their differential diagnoses. A section on molecular pathology and electron microscopy is also included for each tumor category, along with a list of classic reviews and innovative articles on each of the tumor entities as suggested reading at the end of each chapter. Atlas of Pediatric Brain Tumors, Second Edition represents the state of the art in pediatric neuropathology with easy utility beside the microscope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent technological innovations in neuroradiology, the ultimate diagnosis of brain tumors is still based on the histopathological findings from specimens taken during surgery. The material in this atlas represents approximately 700 brain tumor specimens collected mainly in the authors' own clinics. In most cases, complementary light-and-electron-microscopic images of the same case are presented. This volume is a clear and comprehensive guide to the pathology of tumors arising from the central nervous system and should prove useful to pathology residents, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and senior medical students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third American edition has been completely revised and expanded, although parts of the text of the second edition have been included. I wish to acknowledge once again the excellent translation of the former two editions by Dr. ALAN B. ROTHBALLER and the late Dr. JERZY OLSZEWSKI. With this edition I have followed the general theme of the original German edition published in 1951. However, I have tried to consider modern techniques and the many new publications on the subject of brain tumors. Meanwhile, an early desire of mine has been fulfilled by the completion and publication of a classification which can be understood worldwide and hopefully be used widely, namely, the classi fication of the World Health Organization: Histological Typing of Tu mours of the Central Nervous System (1979). The classification which I used in the 1951 edition is very close to the final pattern of that accepted by the World Health Organization (WHO), since both follow the line of the BAILEY and CUSHING classifica tion of 1926/1930. To consolidate our old concepts and experiences we have reclassi fied our collection of 9000 cases with the assistance of my co-workers Dr. M. FUKUI, Dr. A. SATO. Dr. E. SCHARRER, Dr. E. SIMON, and Dr. J. SZYMAS. In the last decade two large atlases have been published, one called an Atlas of the Histology of Brain Tumors 1 (in six languages) and a second one called an Atlas of the Gross Neurosurgical Pathology 2.

Book excerpt: Recent evidence indicates that the physiology and response to various drugs in the pediatric population differs from that of the adult and must be appreciated to be able to fully address the health needs of the pediatric population. This book was released on 2006-04-28 with total page 1090 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text atlas, now in its second edition, presents in simplest form the basic diagnostic criteria used by the electron microscopist in studying neoplasms and other diseases encountered in the routine practice of pathology. Every field of electron microscopy is covered and low magnification plates are juxtaposed with higher magnifications to illustrate diagnostic features. The largest section of the book is devoted to neoplasms as this is the area in which most diagnostic problems occur. Renal glomerular disease is another important category in which ultrastructural study may be critical in diagnosis; infectious diseases, especially those of viral, protozoan, and unusual bacterial etiologies, are a third area in which electron microscopy may be used to establish or susbstantiate a diagnosis. All of these areas are comprehensively covered with concise, readable text and more than 800 first-quality images. This book is the preeminent reference for pathologists needing current information on the role of ultrastructure in diagnostic pathology.

Download or read book Gliomas written by J. Hekmatpanah and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I was asked by the Cancer Teaching Committee of the University of Chicago to set up a Symposium on Brain Tumors, I welcomed the opportunity to do so. But I felt that "Brain Tumors" was far too broad a subject to cover in a day and a half meeting. Furthermore, during the past decade, there have been a great many papers and symposiums on technical advancements in the treatment of benign brain tumors. On the other hand, while gliomas make up somewhere around 50% of all brain tumors, there have certainly been far fewer communications about them. For this reason I thought that it would be highly valuable to invite some of the leading investigators to share with us their experience with gliomas. The hope was to learn the current concepts about these tumors biologically and therapeutically, specifically to find out what we are doing and where we are going in these respects. Naturally all aspects could not be covered. Nevertheless, it was a widely expressed opinion by the speakers that they too learned while they came to teach. It is therefore hoped that the publication of their works and ideas through this mono graph will also be useful for the reader. Most of the manu scripts were handed in at the time of the Symposium, and a few were sent later. Except for minor editorial changes the words are entirely those of the speakers and authors.

Book Synopsis Ultrastructure of Human Sella Tumors by : A.M. Landolt
Download or read book Ultrastructure of Human Sella Tumors written by A.M. Landolt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph on the "Ultrastructure of Human Sella Tumors" is in fact a study of the correlations of clinical findings and morphology. It is a timely and eagerly awaited publication because of the increasing interest of the endocrinologist in pituitary disorders and of the neuro surgeon in the newest aspects of surgery on pituitary tumors, and also because of the unsatisfactory but still widely accepted classification into eosinophil, basophil and chromophobe pituitary adenomas. This old classification has been mainly based on granule color as seen after hematoxylin-eosin staining, but it does not, after extensive clinical observations, reflect in many instances the type of clinical picture observed. The author has brilliantly succeeded in demonstrating in a convinc ing way, by an extensive study of the relevant literature and by his own histological work, that further insight into the biology of the hypophysis and of the pituitary tumor can be obtained only by newer methods of light microscopic staining, immuno-histochemistry and electron microscopy combined with radio-immunological blood hormone determination.
Book Synopsis Atlas of Tumor Pathology of the Fischer Rat by : Sherman F. Stinson
Download or read book Atlas of Tumor Pathology of the Fischer Rat written by Sherman F. Stinson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-01-17 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive resource of the most recent findings on the pathogenesis and pathology in the Fischer rat. Each chapter, adequately illustrated with light and electron photomicrographs, deals with a specific organ system. It includes a summary of the spontaneous neoplasms found in over 5,000 untreated control animals as well as a detailed, step by step necropsy procedure completely illustrated by photographs. It refers to a listing of common and rare tumors associated with the administration of various environmental agents obtained from over 200 carcinogenesis bioassays of the National Cancer Institute and National Toxicology Program. This work also reveals detailed information on spontaneous occurrence and the induction of neoplasms. Scientists involved in the evaluation of toxicological and carcinogenesis bioassays and investigators conducting basic and applied carcinogenesis research will find this atlas indispensable.
