Excerpt: ...to each gallon of bath will be sufficient. He has usually noticed that brassing solutions evolve hydrogen most freely when poor in metal, and when containing a large excess of cyanide. A solution richer in metal, and containing but a moderate excess of cyanide, generally yields better results, both as to colour and general character of the deposit. A great deal depends, however, upon the amount of current and its tension, and also upon the temperature of the bath. A solution rich in copper and zinc is best worked at about 130 Fahr., or even higher. When the solution becomes partly exhausted of its metals, owing to the brass anodes not becoming freely dissolved in the solution, it. is always advisable to add fresh concentrated cyanide solutions of the zinc and copper salts from time to time, taking care, however, only to add them in sufficient quantity to obtain the desired effect--a coating of good colour with but trifling evolution of hydrogen at the negative electrode. Bacco's Solution.--The following solution is said to yield a brass deposit upon zinc work that will stand burniHhiug, and the deposit may be obtained either by simple immersion or by the battery. A solution is first prepared by dissolving equal parts of sulphate of zinc and sulphate of copper in water. A strong-solution of cyanide of potassium is then added in sufficient quantity to redissolve the precipitate formed; to the resulting solution one-tenth to one-fifth of liquid ammonia is added, and the solution is then diluted with water until it stands at about 8" Baume. For a light-coloured deposit of brass 2 parts sulphate of zinc to I part sulphate of copper are used. In adding cyanide to the solution of the sulphates, great care must be taken to a%'oid inhaling the...

Panda and published by ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESS PRESS Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-01 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electroplating and Electrochemicals, industries shimmering with growth and profitability potential, are truly riveting. Electroplating, an intricate process, involves the electrodeposition of a svelte metallic stratum onto diverse substrates utilizing electric currents. This technique entails submerging the intended object, the substrate, into an electrolytic bath brimming with metal ions and, through the application of an electric current, achieves a homogeneous metallic veneer. Conversely, Electrochemicals are birthed from electrochemical reactions. These intricate reactions are characterized by the transference of electrons among distinct compounds within an electrolytic milieu. Through the deliberate orchestration of electron flow, a plethora of chemical reactions are catalyzed, culminating in the synthesis of targeted chemicals. This methodology finds its application across a spectrum of industries, encompassing pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and energy storage sectors. The global electroplating market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5%. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for electroplated products from various end-use industries, such as automotive, electrical & electronics, aerospace & defense, Jewellery and machinery parts & components. In addition, the growing awareness about corrosion protection and decorative finishes is also propelling the growth of this market. This book contains in-depth information about Electrochemical Processing, Metal Surface Treatment, Electroless Plating, Electroplating, Electroplating of Aluminium, Cadmium, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Gold, Iron, Lead, Nickel, Bright Nickel, Silver, Alloy, Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, Bright Zinc, Tin, Plastics, Barrel, Zinc Electroplating Brightener, Metal Treatments, Electrodeposition of Precious Metals, Electropolishing of Stainless Steel, Case Hardening, Electroless Coating of (Gold, Silver), Buffing and Industrial Metal Polishing Compounds, Aluminium, Gold and Its Compounds, Complex Salts of (Copper, Silver and Gold), Hydrides of Silicon, Chemical and Electrochemical Conversion Treatments, Electrostatic Sealing. This book is an invaluable resource that comprehensively addresses all the essential topics in Electroplating and Electrochemicals. It is poised to become a standard reference for professionals and entrepreneurs interested in this field, offering a comprehensive understanding of Electroplating. Additionally, it will prove highly beneficial to consultants, new entrepreneurs, technocrats, research scholars, libraries, and existing businesses. The book offers a detailed roadmap that guides readers from the initial concept to the machinery acquisition phase.

Download or read book Electroplating written by David Hanson and published by The Crowood Press. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electroplating in the home workshop can seem a daunting task due to the range of chemicals, the unfamiliar processes and the underlying chemistry involved. However, the results of a well-cleaned item and a well-maintained electrolyte are overwhelmingly impressive and, compared to sending parts to be industrially electroplated, are very cost effective. The practical advice given in Electroplating will provide you with the confidence and ability to create an electroplating tank of your own. This book will guide you through each of the processes and the equipment needed to start your own plating system and, alongside detailed step-by-step photographs and diagrams, provide instructions on their most effective use. It covers: the history and scientific basics of the electroplating process; types of electroplating metals and their function and applications; formulations and ingredients for electroplating solutions; advice on selecting the best equipment to use depending on tank size; detailed processes of cleaning and its vital importance to the final results and finally, safety information including personal safety and the correct disposal of chemicals.
