Book Synopsis Elementary Theory of Elastic Plates by : L. G. Jaeger
Download or read book Elementary Theory of Elastic Plates written by L. G. Jaeger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Theory of Elastic Plates deals with plate theory, particularly on the elastic behavior of initially flat thin plates subjected to loads, producing deflexions. This book discusses rectangular plates and circular plates subjected to different types of load conditions. This text describes the bending moment and curvature of beams, and gives the formula of principal axes, where the location of a neutral axis that experiences zero stress and strain, can be found. This book also notes how calculations can show small or negligible deflexions. The text discusses Possion's ratio effect and the Mohr's circle relationship. This text analyzes the various loads acting on different parts of the rectangular plate using the Navier method; the Levy's method is taken up when considerations are on other forms of boundary support on the rectangular plate. This book then addresses the circular plate that experiences bending moments and curvatures when it is placed under radially symmetric loads. This text explains the equation that is applicable in a radially symmetric case. This book also addresses understanding approximations of energy in stability problems when there is bending and twisting as shown in a strut with a certain thickness, radial length of the arms, and length of the strut. Engineers, physicists, architects, and designers of industrial equipment subject to heavy loads will appreciate the information found in this book.

Book Synopsis The Bending and Stretching of Plates by : E. H. Mansfield
Download or read book The Bending and Stretching of Plates written by E. H. Mansfield and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bending and Stretching of Plates deals with elastic plate theory, particularly on small- and large-deflexion theory. Small-deflexion theory concerns derivation of basic equations, rectangular plates, plates of various shapes, plates whose boundaries are amenable to conformal transformation, plates with variable rigidity, and approximate methods. Large-deflexion theory includes general equations and some exact solutions, approximate methods in large-deflexion theory, asymptotic large-deflexion theories for very thin plates. Asymptotic theories covers membrane theory, tension field theory, and inextensional theory. The book explains stress-strain relations, effect of forces in the plane of the plate, and rectangular plates that have all edges simply supported, or where plates that have all edges clamped. The text also considers plates of constant thickness whose boundaries are circular, sector-shaped, elliptical, or triangular. Muskhelishvili (1933) addresses boundary value problems of plane stress using analytical methods of the biharmonic equation. The book also investigates some approximate methods of analysis of large-deflexion behavior of plates of constant thickness where there is either a uniformly distributed load, or a compressive load in the plane of the plate in excess of that necessary to cause initial buckling. The book explains that the engineer can use the principle of minimum potential energy to investigate large deflexion of plates. The text is suitable for structural engineers in civil, mechanical or marine engineering, as well as to structural research workers and students.
Book Synopsis Plastic Bending : Theory And Applications by : T X Yu
Download or read book Plastic Bending : Theory And Applications written by T X Yu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-03-20 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the point of view of mechanics, this monograph systematically demonstrates the theory of plastic bending and its engineering applications; most of the contents of the book are based on the authors' research in the past decade. The monograph not only expounds the contributions of the authors to the fundamental theory of plastic bending, but also presents various applications of the theory in sheet metal forming, particularly in the analysis and prediction of springback and wrinkling of strips and plates subjected to bending or stamping. In addition to theoretical modelling, attention has also been paid to the development of related numerical methods; comparisons with experimental results are also presented.

This book was released on 1999-02-10 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents a complete treatment of the theory and analysis of elastic plates. It provides detailed coverage of classic and shear deformation plate theories and their solutions by analytical as well as numerical methods for bending, buckling and natural vibrations. Analytical solutions are based on the Navier and Levy solution method, and numerical solutions are based on the Rayleigh-Ritz methods and finite element method. The author address a range of topics, including basic equations of elasticity, virtual work and energy principles, cylindrical bending of plates, rectangular plates and an introduction to the finite element method with applications to plates.

Download or read book Poisson Theory of Elastic Plates written by Kaza Vijayakumar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-25 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book resolves the main lacuna in Kirchhoff theory of bending of plates in the Poisson-Kirchhoff boundary conditions paradox through the introduction of auxiliary problem governing transverse stresses. The book highlights new primary bending problem which is formulated and analyzed by the application of developed Poisson theory. Analysis with prescribed transverse stresses along faces of the plate, neglected in most reported theories, is presented with an additional term in displacements. The book presents a systematic procedure for the analysis of unsymmetrical laminates. This volume will be a useful reference for students, practicing engineers as well as researchers in applied mechanics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the world's leading authorities on plate behavior, this study gives a clear physical insight into elastic plate behavior. Small-deflection theory is treated in Part 1 in chapters dealing with basic equations: including thermal effects and multi-layered anisotropic plates, rectangular plates, circular and other shaped plates, plates whose boundaries are amenable to conformal transformation, plates with variable thickness, and approximate methods. Large-deflection theory is treated in Part 2 in chapters dealing with basic equations and exact solutions; approximate methods, including post-buckling behavior; and asymptotic theories for very thin plates, including tension field theory and inextensional theory. The mathematical content is necessarily high, making the style of the book appropriate to engineers and applied mathematicians. E.H. Mansfield is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a founder member of the Fellowship of Engineering, and the author of over 100 publications.

Book Synopsis Variational and Potential Methods in the Theory of Bending of Plates with Transverse Shear Deformation by : I. Chudinovich
Download or read book Variational and Potential Methods in the Theory of Bending of Plates with Transverse Shear Deformation written by I. Chudinovich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-06-13 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastic plates form a class of very important mechanical structures that appear in a wide range of practical applications, from building bodies to microchip production. As the sophistication of industrial designs has increased, so has the demand for greater accuracy in analysis. This in turn has led modelers away from Kirchoff's classical theory for thin plates and toward increasingly refined models that yield not only the deflection of the middle section, but also account for transverse shear deformation. The improved performance of these models is achieved, however, at the expense of a much more complicated system of governing equations and boundary conditions. In this Monograph, the authors conduct a rigorous mathematical study of a number of boundary value problems for the system of partial differential equations that describe the equilibrium bending of an elastic plate with transverse shear deformation. Specifically, the authors explore the existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence of the solution on the data. In each case, they give the variational formulation of the problems and discuss their solvability in Sobolev spaces. They then seek the solution in the form of plate potentials and reduce the problems to integral equations on the contour of the domain. This treatment covers an extensive range of problems and presents the variational method and the boundary integral equation method applied side-by-side. Readers will find that this feature of the book, along with its clear exposition, will lead to a firm and useful understanding of both the model and the methods.
