Book excerpt: Value assessment, an important element of the pre-market evaluation of pest control products at the Pest Management Regulatory Agency, consists of three components: assessment of efficacy (or the ability of the product to fulfil its claims), of economic benefits & competitiveness, and of the product's contribution to sustainability. The guidelines presented in this document apply to the evaluation of efficacy of chemical control products for plant protection. The first part outlines general principles for conducting efficacy trials and meeting efficacy data requirements. The second part describes test procedures for generating efficacy data. The final part provides guidance on the reporting & preparation of the efficacy data package for presentation to the Agency.

This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The understanding that some pesticides are more hazardous than others is well established. Recognition of this is reflected by the World Health Organization (WHO) Recommended Classification of Pesticides by Hazard, which was first published in 1975. The document classifies pesticides in one of five hazard classes according to their acute toxicity. In 2002, the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was introduced, which in addition to acute toxicity also provides classification of chemicals according to their chronic health hazards and environmental hazards.

Book Synopsis International Code of Conduct on Pesticide Management - Guidance on Pesticide Legislation - Second edition by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book International Code of Conduct on Pesticide Management - Guidance on Pesticide Legislation - Second edition written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the guidelines is to provide guidance to governments that seek to review, update or design national pesticide legislation. It should be emphasized, however, that legislation alone cannot ensure effective pesticide management and adequate protection of the environment and public health. Governments will need to have in place the necessary institutional infrastructure for registering pesticides and enforcing legislation. Further, governments also need effective supporting policies and tools to promote sustainable pest and pesticide management. This may include promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Vector Management (IVM) through training programmes and incentive schemes, increasing availability and use of low risk products, fostering scientific research, carrying out public education campaigns and providing training for inspectors, retailers and professional users. A solid legislative framework should underpin the selected institutional framework, policies and tools. This document supersedes the Guidelines for Legislation on the Control of Pesticides of 1989.

This volume examines the impacts of the Delaney Clause on agricultural innovation and on the public's dietary exposure to potentially carcinogenic pesticide residues. Four regulatory scenarios are described to illustrate the effects of varying approaches to managing oncogenic pesticide residues in food.
