Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find the right answer the first time with this useful handbook of preliminary aircraft design. Written by an engineer with close to 20 years of design experience, General Aviation Aircraft Design: Applied Methods and Procedures provides the practicing engineer with a versatile handbook that serves as the first source for finding answers to realistic aircraft design questions. The book is structured in an "equation/derivation/solved example" format for easy access to content. Readers will find it a valuable guide to topics such as sizing of horizontal and vertical tails to minimize drag, sizing of lifting surfaces to ensure proper dynamic stability, numerical performance methods, and common faults and fixes in aircraft design. In most cases, numerical examples involve actual aircraft specs. Concepts are visually depicted by a number of useful black-and-white figures, photos, and graphs (with full-color images included in the eBook only). Broad and deep in coverage, it is intended for practicing engineers, aerospace engineering students, mathematically astute amateur aircraft designers, and anyone interested in aircraft design. - Organized by articles and structured in an "equation/derivation/solved example" format for easy access to the content you need - Numerical examples involve actual aircraft specs - Contains high-interest topics not found in other texts, including sizing of horizontal and vertical tails to minimize drag, sizing of lifting surfaces to ensure proper dynamic stability, numerical performance methods, and common faults and fixes in aircraft design - Provides a unique safety-oriented design checklist based on industry experience - Discusses advantages and disadvantages of using computational tools during the design process - Features detailed summaries of design options detailing the pros and cons of each aerodynamic solution - Includes three case studies showing applications to business jets, general aviation aircraft, and UAVs - Numerous high-quality graphics clearly illustrate the book's concepts (note: images are full-color in eBook only)

Download or read book Effects of Wing and Tail Location on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Airplane for Mach Numbers from 0. 25 To 4. 63 written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental investigations have been conducted to determine the effect of wing vertical position and horizontal-tail vertical and axial position on the static aerodynamic characteristics of a wing-body horizontal-tail configuration. The configurations investigated included the wing in a high, mid, or low position on the body with the horizontal tail in each of these vertical positions as well as in three axial positions. The closest position of the horizontal tail to the wing essentially provided on all-wing configuration. In addition, tests were made for the three wing positions with the horizontal tail removed. The tests were made in three different wind tunnels to provide data for a Mach number range from 0.25 to 4.63. The purpose of the investigation was to illustrate the strong effects of interference flow fields as a function of geometry and flight regime. An analysis of the results indicate some arrangements that might lead to aerodynamic problems and others in which the interference flow fields might be favorably exploited. The results suggest that a coplanar concept with a translating horizontal tail could potentially minimize the aerodynamic changes with Mach number and provide more optimum performance over the Mach number range. Book Synopsis The Encyclopedia of Aerodynamics by : Frank Hitchens
Download or read book The Encyclopedia of Aerodynamics written by Frank Hitchens and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Encyclopedia of Aerodynamics was written for pilots at all levels from private pilot to airline pilot, military pilots and students of aerodynamics as a complete reference manual to aerodynamic terminology. General aerodynamic text books for pilots are relatively limited in their scope while aerodynamic text books for engineering students involve complex calculus. The references in this book, The Encyclopedia of Aerodynamics, are clearly described and only basic algebra is used in a few references but is completely devoid of any calculus - an advantage to many readers. Over 1400 references are included with alternative terms used where appropriate and cross-referenced throughout. The text is illustrated with 178 photographs and 96 diagrams. The Encyclopedia of Aerodynamics is an ideal aerodynamic reference manual for any pilot's bookshelf.
Book Synopsis Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics by : John David Anderson
Download or read book Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics written by John David Anderson and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained text for those students and readers interested in learning hypersonic flow and high-temperature gas dynamics. It assumes no prior familiarity with either subject on the part of the reader. If you have never studied hypersonic and/or high-temperature gas dynamics before, and if you have never worked extensively in the area, then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you have worked and/or are working in these areas, and you want a cohesive presentation of the fundamentals, a development of important theory and techniques, a discussion of the salient results with emphasis on the physical aspects, and a presentation of modern thinking in these areas, then this book is also for you. In other words, this book is designed for two roles: 1) as an effective classroom text that can be used with ease by the instructor, and understood with ease by the student; and 2) as a viable, professional working tool for engineers, scientists, and managers who have any contact in their jobs with hypersonic and/or high-temperature flow.
