Download or read book The Effect of Delay and of Intervening Events on Reinforcement Value written by Michael L. Commons and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1986. This is Volume V of six in a series on Quantitative Analyses of Behavior. Quantitative analysis now generally refers to the fact that theoretical issues are represented by quantitative models. An analysis is not a matter of fitting arbitrary functions to data points. The volumes in the present series have been written for behavioral scientists. Those concerned with issues in the study of how behavior is acquired and then allocated in various environments-biologists, psychologists, economists, anthropologists, and other researchers, as well as graduate students and advanced undergraduates in those areas-should find volumes in this series to be state-of the-art readers and reference works. Each volume of the series examines a particular topic that has been discussed at the annual Symposium on Quantitative Analyses of Behavior held at Harvard University. This volume, V, addresses the topic of how reinforcement value is affected by delay and intervening events. Self-control studies are also presented and discussed.

Book Synopsis Some Determinants of Vicarious Reinforcement Effects by : Erin M. Camp
Download or read book Some Determinants of Vicarious Reinforcement Effects written by Erin M. Camp and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Although vicarious reinforcement effects (increases in one's behavior as a result of observing another's behavior being reinforced) have been demonstrated under a variety of experimental arrangements, little research has examined the determinants of those effects from the standpoint of basic learning principles or the conditions under which they are more or less likely to be observed. This study examined some antecedent and consequent influences of vicarious reinforcement effects, as well as the maintenance and generalization of those effects. The results of Experiment 1 identified the influence of both stimulus control and establishing operations on vicariously reinforced responding. Experiment 2 examined the influence of differential consequences delivered to a model in a vicarious reinforcement arrangement. Experiment 3 showed the maintenance, over time, of a response acquired via vicarious reinforcement as well as the generalization of responses to new environments and the generalization of imitative behavior. The general results from all three experiments highlight a variety of determinants of vicarious reinforcement effects.

Book Synopsis Psychology and Crime by : Francis Pakes
Download or read book Psychology and Crime written by Francis Pakes and published by Willan. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Society today is fascinated by crime. Crime is a hot topic in the media, so that people are continually exposed to criminal events, portrayals of those who commit them, and the suffering of victims. Yet the reality of crime is often very different from how it is portrayed in the media. Most crime is neither violent nor morbid; most offenders are not psychopaths, and although prison generally does not work, there may well be other, less punitive but more constructive interventions that are actually quite effective. This book exposes some of the most prevalent myths about crime and criminal behaviour. In addition it provides the reader with up-to-date knowledge on crime and offending behaviour. It also highlights the ways in which psychological methods of research and psychological knowledge can help us to understand criminal behaviour and the ways that targeted interventions are developed based upon this. Pakes' and Winstone's Psychology and Crime is essential reading for students taking courses in the psychology of crime, criminal and forensic psychology, criminology, and community justice, as well as for other courses where a knowledge of the complex relationship between psychology and crime - and its application in practice - is required. Practitioners and policy-makers will also find it highly informative.
