Book Synopsis From Legislators to the End-User by : Manfred Fuchs
Download or read book From Legislators to the End-User written by Manfred Fuchs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-02 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC – CPD) should have facilitated putting construction products on any national market within the European Economic Area. Two decades later, its practical impact is still relatively weak. By going beyond the scope of most studies on the implementation of EU legislation at the level of the practical end-users (architects, civil engineers, construction companies), this study highlights the fact that the acceptance of this professional group not only plays a major role in the practical implementation of this directive, but could also change, strengthen or neutralise the intentions of policy makers and administrators at the EU and national level. The book is valuable reading for practical users of the CPD, researchers in political/administrative sciences and professionals working in international institutions and organizations.

Book Synopsis Doing Business in Europe by : Alina Mihaela Dima
Download or read book Doing Business in Europe written by Alina Mihaela Dima and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book brings together an international panel of experts on economic integration and international business to address the essential link between the two fields, namely the impact of integration processes on the business environment. Focusing on the European Union, it presents numerous examples and case studies to demonstrate how local business is becoming international business, and addresses the opportunities, constraints and overall historical changes. Starting with the regional and global economic integration framework, and subsequently exploring the institutional structure that makes everything possible and how the union came to be, the book reveals how the common policies of the EU impact businesses and entrepreneurship within both the common market and the member states. Readers will learn about the economic and political context that affect businesses in Europe; understand the basic concepts of integration, accompanied by cases and examples; gain a new perspective on important EU sectoral policies and challenges for individuals and businesses; become aware of the main challenges to EU enlargement; and better grasp the advantages and disadvantages of doing business in Europe in the present context.

This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What made me write this book was a feeling that students of international economics needed to fill out their knowledge of the theory with work on the practice of the major international economic organizations, many of which are having a growing influence on the national economies of their members. There was no single volume given over to a concise treatment of these organizations. The annual reports of the international organizations themselves can be consulted, of course, but as a rule these are not noted for being brief and to the point (the items of importance have to be fished out of a sea of useless detail), nor do they go in for criticism of their own activities. In selecting the organizations to be dealt with in the book I was guided by the influence they exert. I have left out those whose activities consist mainly in the drafting of recommendations to which, however meritorious they may be, little or no attention is paid. Some of them are included in the Introduction, which provides a summary of a number of institutions not discussed separately in the body of the work. There are, however, two exceptions: the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as the organization replac ing the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) whose meet ings have succeeded in drawing much attention of the press.

Book Synopsis The Politics of Systematization in EU Product Safety Regulation: Market, State, Collectivity, and Integration by : Kai Purnhagen
Download or read book The Politics of Systematization in EU Product Safety Regulation: Market, State, Collectivity, and Integration written by Kai Purnhagen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the increasing role of the legal method of systematisation in European Union (EU) law. It argues that the legal method of systematisation that has been developed in a welfare-state context is increasingly used as a regulative tool to functionally integrate the market. The book uses the example of EU product regulation as a reference to illustrate the impact of systematisation on EU law. It draws conclusions from this phenomenon and redefines the current place and origin of systematisation in the EU legal system. It puts forward and demonstrates two main arguments. First, in certain sectors such as in EU product safety law, the quality of EU law changes from a sector-specific and reactive field of law to an increasingly coherent legal system at European level. Therefore, instead of punctual market intervention, it increasingly governs whole market areas. By doing so, it challenges and often fully replaces the respective welfare-based legal systems in the Member States for the benefit of the ideal of a market-driven EU legal system. Second, at European level, the ideal is in development. This illustrates the change of the function of Statecraft from nation-states to market-states.
