Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted in the Langley 4- by 4-foot supersonic pressure tunnel to determine the effects of various external-store configurations of the longitudinal and lateral aerodynamic characteristics of a model of a 45 degree swept-wing fighter airplane. Pylon-mounted stores located at 23.8, 46.2, and 67.0 percent of the wing semispan were tested individually and in various combinations. The inboard stores relative to outboard stores were similar in shape but approximately 25 percent greater in size. The stores located at 46.2 percent of the wing semispan represented a large fuel tank and had an unsymmetrical shape.

Book Synopsis Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Delta Wing with Leading Edge Swept Back 45 Degrees, Aspect Ratio 4, and NACA 65A006 Airfoil Section by : William C. Sleeman
Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Delta Wing with Leading Edge Swept Back 45 Degrees, Aspect Ratio 4, and NACA 65A006 Airfoil Section written by William C. Sleeman and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the results of the investigation of wing-alone and wing-fuselage combination employing a delta wing having 45 degree sweepback of the leading edge, aspect ratio 4, and an NACA 65A006 airfoil section. Lift, drag, pitching moment, and root bending moment were obtained for these configurations. In addition, effective downwash angles and dynamic-pressure characteristics in the region of a probable tail location also were obtained for these configurations, and are presented for a range of tail heights at one tail length. In order to expedite publishing of these data, only a brief analysis is included.
Book Synopsis Flow-field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Loads on External Stores Near the Fuselage and Wing-pylon Positions of a Swept-wing/fuselage Model at Mach Numbers of 0.4 and 0.7 by : R. H. Roberts
Download or read book Flow-field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Loads on External Stores Near the Fuselage and Wing-pylon Positions of a Swept-wing/fuselage Model at Mach Numbers of 0.4 and 0.7 written by R. H. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data were obtained to aid in the prediction of aerodynamic loads and separation-trajectory characteristics on stores under the influence of an aircraft flow field. Four types of data were obtained in the vicinity of a generalized aircraft model: (1) flow field surveys, using a 40-deg cone probe, to determine the local velocity field, (2) force and moment data on four store models, (3) pressure distribution data on an ogive-cylinder model, and (4) captive-trajectory store separation data on one store model. The generalized aircraft model consisted of a swept-wing/fuselage combination with rectangular, flow-through engine ducts.
