Book Synopsis The Acidification of Ontario Lakes by : B. P. Neary
Download or read book The Acidification of Ontario Lakes written by B. P. Neary and published by [Dorset, Ont.] : Limnology Section. This book was released on 1990 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ontario acid sensitivity database (OASD) is a compilation of chemical data collected on about 6000 lakes, derived from a number of studies, most of them conducted as part of the Acid Precipitation in Ontario study (APIOS). This report describes the water chemistry of those lakes, giving summaries of the data and studies used. Details are given on the measured lake chemistry for cations, anions, metals, conductivity, apparent and true colour and dissolved organic carbon. Sulphur deposition zones are detailed, along with the chemical characteristics of lakes by such zones. The report concludes with estimates of lake resources affected by acid deposition.

Book Synopsis Acid Toxicity and Aquatic Animals by : R. Morris
Download or read book Acid Toxicity and Aquatic Animals written by R. Morris and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989-03-16 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews and presents recent research on acid waters and their effects on aquatic animals. Starting with the environment, in order to assess why the problems have arisen in particular areas, the volume then deals with field and survival studies on invertebrates and vertebrates; examines the extent of the biological problem and the attempts that have been made to relate water quality and the susceptibility of animals. The natural progression of environmental and field studies, toxicity, and survival tests provide the background information for the physiological studies that follow. These form the major component of the book and they seek to analyze the toxic effects of acid waters and trace metals with cardiovascular and endocrinological effects.
Book Synopsis Effects of Pollution on Fish by : Andrew J. Lawrence
Download or read book Effects of Pollution on Fish written by Andrew J. Lawrence and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of pollution on fisheries and the potential health implications of eating contaminated fish are areas of considerable concern for the fishing and aquaculture communities, government bodies and the general public. Pollution, as well as over fishing, may well be contributory to recent serious declines in global fish stocks. Effects of Pollution on Fish brings together the work of many international experts each of whom have examined the literature on marine and freshwater fish and, where appropriate, invertebrates, to produce comprehensive chapters covering all major aspects of the impacts of pollution on fish and fisheries. The book describes these impacts in detail, from the molecular and sub-cellular level, through organism to population and community levels, and subsequently to socio-economic implications. The editors of this thorough and timely book have drawn together contributions encompassing molecular genetics, biochemistry, physiology, population and community biology, and fishery economics. As such, this important book will be of great use and interest to students and professionals studying and teaching in all those subject areas. Fish biologists, environmental scientists and ecotoxicologists, marine and freshwater ecologists, fisheries managers, aquaculture personnel and fish farmers, as well as fish veterinarians will all find much of great value within this book. Libraries in universities and research establishments concerned with these areas should all have copies of this book on their shelves.

Book Synopsis Methods for Fish Biology by : Carl B. Schreck
Download or read book Methods for Fish Biology written by Carl B. Schreck and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed as both a reference and a handbook for the study of fishes. It is a source of methods commonly used to research fish genetics, systematics, anatomy, physiology, developmental biology, toxicology, behavior, and ecology. Standard methods and their theoretical framework are presented for all these fields. Each of the book's 20 chapters also contains a background literature review which, though not exhaustive, allows readers to delve more deeply into subjects that particularly interest them. The main emphasis is on methodology, but the pros and cons of alternative procedures also are treated, as are the uses and misuses of data generated by the techniques.
