Book Synopsis The Efficacy of Road Safety Education in Schools by : S. J. Raftery
Download or read book The Efficacy of Road Safety Education in Schools written by S. J. Raftery and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides an overview of current road safety education (RSE) programs for school students that are currently in use in Australia and overseas with the primary aims of commenting on the effectiveness of current approaches, and to identify any gaps in the provision of RSE. To this end the report was necessarily restricted to the inclusion of RSE programs that have been evaluated or that are comparable with similar programs that had. RSE programs were categorised according to the five primary strategies adopted: indirect or holistic approaches, one-time interventions, driver training, curriculum-based, and multi-modal approaches. The lack of well-designed evaluations makes commenting on the short- and long-term efficacy of RSE programs problematic, however the report makes use of evidence from a variety of sources to facilitate an informed discussion. The effectiveness of current road safety educational programs remains largely undetermined as there is little evidence showing that RSE either does or does not work, although programs addressing the general causes of risk taking behaviour are showing some promise. In general current approaches do not appear to cause harm, unless they promote early licensing, and there would be expected to be an inherent value in passing on road safety knowledge. Suggestions for improvements and future directions for RSE are also offered.

Book Synopsis Road and Traffic Safety by : Daniel Hughes
Download or read book Road and Traffic Safety written by Daniel Hughes and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The disparity between urban and rural motor vehicle fatalities in the U.S. is well documented in academic research and reports show discrepancy between urban and rural fatalities. However, despite the decline in overall motor vehicle fatalities, the difference between urban and rural fatality rates has stayed relatively consistent. Rural fatalities still account for over half the overall fatalities despite having fewer vehicle miles travelled (VMT) than in urban areas. Therefore, examining the reasons behind the continued discrepancy between urban and rural motor vehicle deaths remains an important issue in safety management and research. This book discusses practices, roles of human behavior and effective programs in road and traffic safety.

Book Synopsis World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention by : Marjorie Peden
Download or read book World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention written by Marjorie Peden and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day thousands of people are killed and injured on our roads. Millions of people each year will spend long weeks in the hospital after severe crashes and many will never be able to live, work or play as they used to do. Current efforts to address road safety are minimal in comparison to this growing human suffering. This report presents a comprehensive overview of what is known about the magnitude, risk factors and impact of road traffic injuries, and about ways to prevent and lessen the impact of road crashes. Over 100 experts, from all continents and different sectors -- including transport, engineering, health, police, education and civil society -- have worked to produce the report. Charts and tables.
Book Synopsis Global Status Report on Road Safety 2015 by : World Health Organization
Download or read book Global Status Report on Road Safety 2015 written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Global status report on road safety 2015, reflecting information from 180 countries, indicates that worldwide the total number of road traffic deaths has plateaued at 1.25 million per year, with the highest road traffic fatality rates in low-income countries. In the last three years, 17 countries have aligned at least one of their laws with best practice on seat-belts, drink-driving, speed, motorcycle helmets or child restraints. While there has been progress towards improving road safety legislation and in making vehicles safer, the report shows that the pace of change is too slow. Urgent action is needed to achieve the ambitious target for road safety reflected in the newly adopted 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: halving the global number of deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes by 2020. Made possible through funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies, this report is the third in the series, and provides a snapshot of the road safety situation globally, highlighting the gaps and the measures needed to best drive progress."--Publisher's description.

Book Synopsis World Report on Child Injury Prevention by : M. M. Peden
Download or read book World Report on Child Injury Prevention written by M. M. Peden and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2008 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child injuries are largely absent from child survival initiatives presently on the global agenda. Through this report, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund and many partners have set out to elevate child injury to a priority for the global public health and development communities. It should be seen as a complement to the UN Secretary-General's study on violence against children released in late 2006 (that report addressed violence-related or intentional injuries). Both reports suggest that child injury and violence prevention programs need to be integrated into child survival and other broad strategies focused on improving the lives of children. Evidence demonstrates the dramatic successes in child injury prevention in countries which have made a concerted effort. These results make a case for increasing investments in human resources and institutional capacities. Implementing proven interventions could save more than a thousand children's lives a day.--p. vii.

Download or read book Road Traffic Injury Prevention Training Manual written by Dinesh Mohan and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2006 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Road traffic collisions kill about 1.2 million people around the world every year but they are largely neglected as a health and development issue, perhaps because they are still viewed by many as being beyond human control. Efforts to prevent road traffic injuries are hampered by a lack of human capacity. Policy-makers, researchers and practitioners need information on effective prevention measure and on how to develop, implement and evaluate such interventions. There is a need to train more specialists in road traffic injury prevention in order to address the growing problem of road traffic injuries at international levels.
