Book Synopsis Effect of Some Present-day Airplane Design Trends on Requirements for Lateral Stability by : Millard J. Bamber
Download or read book Effect of Some Present-day Airplane Design Trends on Requirements for Lateral Stability written by Millard J. Bamber and published by . This book was released on 1941 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of the computations are presented in the form of diagrams of variations of fin area with dihedral angle from neutral stability. The results indicate that ncreasing the values of wing loading and moments of inertia makes the attainment of lateral stability increasingly difficult and even doubtful in some cases for airplanes with flaps deflected. The fin area required for lateral stability is more dependent on fuselage size than on wing area.

Book Synopsis An Electrical Computer for the Solution of Shear-lag and Bolted-joint Problems by : Robert D. Ross
Download or read book An Electrical Computer for the Solution of Shear-lag and Bolted-joint Problems written by Robert D. Ross and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analogy between the distributon of stresses in flat stiffened panels and the distribution of electric current in a ladder-type resistance network is used as the theoretical basis of an electrical computer for the rapid solution of shear-lag problems. The computer, consisting of variable resistors and multiple-current sources, is described; and typical examples are given of its use. The analogy is extended to include bolted-joint problems, and an example is also given.

Book Synopsis Analysis of the Effects of Wing Interference on the Tail Contributions to the Rolling Derivatives by : William H. Michael
Download or read book Analysis of the Effects of Wing Interference on the Tail Contributions to the Rolling Derivatives written by William H. Michael and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the effects of wing interference on the tail contributions to the rolling stability derivatives of complete airplane configurations is made by calculating the angularity of the air stream at the vertical tail due to rolling and determining the resulting forces and moments. Some sidewash results are presented for a limited range of wing plan forms and vertical-tail sizes. Equations for using the sidewash results to determine the tail contributions to the rolling derivatives are given and some comparisons with experimental data are made.
