Book excerpt: A series of untapered, unswept, complete wings of apsect ratios 1.13, 2.13, 4.13, and 6.13 was investigated at a Mach number of 0.26 to determine the effect of aspect ratio on the lateral control characteristics of the wings equipped with 0.25-chord sealed ailerons of various spans and of various spanwise locations. Design charts are presented for computing aileron effectiveness of low-aspect-ratio, untapered, unswept wings. Experimental values of control effectivenesss are compared with values estimated by theoretical methods.

Book Synopsis A Comparison of the Lateral Controllability with Flap and Plug Ailerons on a Sweptback-wing Model Having Full-span Flaps by : Powell M. Lovell
Download or read book A Comparison of the Lateral Controllability with Flap and Plug Ailerons on a Sweptback-wing Model Having Full-span Flaps written by Powell M. Lovell and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A free-flight-tunnel investigation has been made to compare the dynamic lateral control characteristics provided by step plug ailerons on a sweptback-wing model having full-span flaps. The model had a 38 degree sweptback wing with an aspect ratio of 3 and a taper ratio of 0.05. The static stability and control characteristics of the flight-test model were determined from force tests and the time-lag characteristics of the ailerons were determined from stand tests in which there was freedom only in roll. Flight tests of the model were made over a range of lift coefficient from 1.0 through the stall.

Hewes and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The trends in lateral stability and control produced variations of the mass distribution were determined for a model with a 45 degree sweptback wing. Calculations were made to correlate the trends determined by theory with those determined from tests of a free-flying dynamic model in the Langley free-flight tunnel.

Book Synopsis Lift, Pitching Moment, and Span Load Characteristics of Wings at Low Speed as Affected by Variations of Sweep and Aspect Ratio by : Edward J. Hopkins
Download or read book Lift, Pitching Moment, and Span Load Characteristics of Wings at Low Speed as Affected by Variations of Sweep and Aspect Ratio written by Edward J. Hopkins and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lift, pitching-moment, and pressure distribution were measured on a wing which was swept -40, -30, 0, 35, and 45 degrees. The wing span was decreased to give aspect ratios 6.8, 5.3, 4.2, 3.4, and 2.8. The effects of independent variations of sweep and aspect ratio on the lift, pitching-moment, and span-load characteristics of the wings are compared with the effects estimated by use of the Weissinger method.

Download or read book Lateral Control Characteristics of Two Structural Similar Flexible Wings with 45 Degrees Sweep: a Sweptback Wing and a Wing with M Plan Form written by Rodger L. Naeseth and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A low-speed wind-tunnel investigation was made to determine the static lateral control characteristics of flap-type and retractable spoiler-type ailerons on a rigid sweptback wing, a flexible sweptback wing, and a flexible M-wing. A few tests were also made with a half-delta tip control on the flexible sweptback wing. The semispan wing models were of aspect ratio 6.0, taper ratio of 0.6, and had NACA 65A009 airfoil sections parallel to the free-stream direction. The quarter-chord lines of the wings were swept 45 degrees and the break in the M-wing was at the half semispan location.

This book was released on 1949 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A low-speed investigation was made in the Langley stability tunnel to determine the effect of sweepback on the static and rolling stability derivatives of a series of wings, each of which had a taper ratio of 0.6 and an aspect ratio of 4. The wings were of NACA 65A006 section in planes parallel to the axis of symmetry and had sweepback angles of their quarter-chord line of 3.6, 23.6, and 46.7 degrees. Most of the tests were made with the wings in combination with a fuselage.
