Book excerpt: This book is an educational piece and a thoroughly researched contribution in the 21st century Nigeria. I recommend it to all lovers of education. The Education Ministers, Boards and other relevant bodies have to read this. University Dons would find Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Alphonsus Ezeokes book exceptionally useful. It is a handbook for todays students. -Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. J.P.C. Nzomiwu (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria) Straddling two cultures, Fr. Ezeoke not only exposes the urgent need for educational reform in Nigeria, but he also advances the strategies that are needed to reach under the current system and lift it up. Knowing the historicity, Fr. Ezeokes careful assessment calls for action and boldly determines that such an undertaking is key to Nigerian growth, unity and global interaction. -Cathy B. Grandjean, MA BCC (Fmr) Director of Chaplaincy, Catholic Health Services of Long Island I write to congratulate Rev. Dr. Alphonsus Ezeoke for this unique 21st Century contribution to the field of education. While he promoted positive and optimistic concern to educational growth in general, he equally got to the root of the dilemma, illusions, presumptions, ideologies and projections that impact negatively on its attainment. I highly recommend this masterpiece to the educational system in Nigeria, especially to everyone who is conscious to make his/her educational journey a success story. -Anthony O. Nwachukwu, PhD, Psy.D (Prof. of Counseling Psychology and West African Studies) Chair, PhD Defense Panel, NY

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Education in Nigeria: Reflections and Global Perspectives, provides a broad overview of education in Nigeria. It recognizes the vital role education plays in the development of Nigeria and has attempted to air the concerns and call of the Nigerian public as well as educators for reform in the educational system in Nigeria. The book further recognizes that Nigerian education continues to be evolved, first into a system of Western European education and then into a global system of education. It attempts to examine the status of education in Nigeria and thereby seeks solutions by exploring Nigeria’s and global historical perspectives, current trends, and future directions regarding students and learning, teachers and teaching, the school curriculum, and administration of schools. It is expected that the comprehensive nature of the text will be beneficial to individuals in teacher preparation programs as well as those who plan to work with children in pre-kindergarten (nursery) through secondary settings. The chapter content of the book focuses on the variation of thought as to the principal objectives of educators to help students in Nigeria develop habits, skills and ideas, and help them to think. It adds to the importance of providing education to all, especially at the time when Nigeria is frankly making an effort to affirm democracy. For any nation to be truly democratic, it must maintain an educated electorate. Education prepares people to make informed decisions that affect the society. All children in Nigeria should, therefore, receive an education to prepare them to become effective members of the world society. This book seeks to examine and reflect on education in Nigeria and globally.

Book excerpt: The 14 chapters in this book address education policy as it is being implemented in three world regions, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. The diverse authors utilize original local data, interpreting it to describe policy development and implementation across a range of nations who share commonalities but also differences. The chapters begin with the premise that policy must respond to the needs of the citizenry and to the challenges faced by each society internally as well as globally. Meeting the challenge of frequently competing existing needs while addressing educational development to prepare for future needs, is an ongoing task for policymakers. The researchers authoring the book’s chapters are aware of competing challenges and of the need for frequent revision of educational policy as well as continuing support for its implementation. They base their conclusions and the implications offered on the data while taking into account the culture within which successful and appropriate policy must be implemented. The implications have relevance for any society in the world as diversity exists everywhere so all societies are experiencing challenges generated by our interdependence with each other.

Book excerpt: Revitalizing Nigerian Education in Digital Age: What most of the papers in this book have in common is the concern for the revitalization of Nigerian education in the digital age through ICT and other modern methods of making education functional and effective in the new modernity. While some of the chapters deal with conceptual issues, others consider the various role of education in this digital age and how Nigeria can be relevant. Most of the chapters present well-researched, detailed, and informative papers on how to reposition Nigerian education in the digital age. Specifically, the role of education in bringing Nigeria's new world about are discussed in simple language and then taken up in different forms all through the book. Since Nigeria has to act fast and decisively to be on the same development and education wavelength as the other members of today's global family, serious actions are being suggested in this book. Revitalizing Nigerian Education in Digital Age simply means taking the above desiderata seriously. Nigeria has a daunting task here in view of the heavy education burden. This is the message that this book puts across.

Book excerpt: Global Education Reform presents an opportunity to reorganize, transform, and recapture misplaced human potential. The book advocates a new culture of the education process through the establishment of Student Concerned Review Councils (SCRCs) as a vehicle for global education reform in college and university communities. The proposed SCRC must be viewed as an active search engine for a global conduit to encourage chancellors, vice chancellors, presidents, professors, and ministers of education to be fully integrated in the SCRC process. The book notes that effective design and implementation of Information Technology Resource Service Centers (ITRSCs) on college and university campuses will definitely help students to reconnect with their lost potential, elevate their self-confidence, improve their inner satisfaction, develop their personal life and professional career, and restore dignity to the education community. The implementation of Information Technology Resource Service Centers (ITRSC), Programming Resource Technology Center (PTRC), Open Access Technology Resource Center (OATRC), Professional Development Technology Center (PDTC), Professional Development Technology Center (PDTC), Academic Faculty Resource Technology Center (AFRTC), Academic Research Technology Center (ARTC), Learning Resource Technology Center (LRTC), and Certification Resource Technology Center (CRTC) will enhance the understanding, importance, and advantages of information technology in the education process. The author sees the decay of the Nigerian educational system as a regrettable oversight and a deterrent to global education reform and the preparation, nurturing and education of future education leaders of the unified free world. The author asserts that Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Tafawa Balewa, General Aguiyi Ironsi, General Yakubu Gowon, Chief Obafemi Owolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Brigadier Udoakaha Esuene, and Governor Owelle Okorocha were patriotic, enduring, and outstanding education advocates for all citizens in Nigeria. A lifelong education is an instructive and enlightening route to wisdom, intellectual growth, and maturity; therefore, it is the authors assertion that combined and collaborative efforts are needed, as well as support from ministers of education and other politicians who are willing to allocate adequate financial resources that will enable privileged elites; chancellors, vice chancellors, presidents, professors to prepare future leaders of the education system in their formative years to establish an attitude of persistence, and self-confidence to cope with the demanding workforce and professional challenges of todays information technology society. The author submits that effective and efficient use of information technology as valuable data and voice transmission tools, e-mail, cell phones, Internet access as education instruction delivery apparatus, and communication system for global language barriers will definitely create a singular and mutually sovereign system for the successful development of global education reform.
