Book Synopsis The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) by : Martin Steven
Download or read book The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) written by Martin Steven and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2020-08-04 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) are now established as one of the larger groups in the European Parliament and from 2014 to 2019 had more MEPs than the Liberals, Greens or radical left and right-wing factions. Despite this, ECR has so far been largely dismissed by political scientists, journalists and Brussels policy-makers as merely another Euro-sceptic faction. Representing the first major study of the political activities of ECR and its ‘Euro-realist’ agenda, this book argues that ECR ought to be recognised as the main voice for Conservatism in Strasbourg, promoting ‘Anglosphere’ free market values and the role of NATO in international relations. The book begins with an examination of the origins and early development of ECR, when British Conservative leader David Cameron established the group in a Euro-sceptic gesture to his party. Cameron failed, however, to see the isolating long-term consequences of withdrawing his MEPs from the powerful European People’s Party (EPP). Other chapters examine the role of ECR member parties in its development and profile – including Law and Justice (PiS) from Poland, the Czech Civic Democrats (ODS), the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) and the Danish People’s Party (DF). Drawing on interviews with MEPs and other key figures, the book concludes with an analysis of the leadership and policy activities of ECR politicians in Brussels and Strasbourg in an attempt to measure influence.

Book Synopsis ECR, EKS and Java Docker images by : Matthew Casperson
Download or read book ECR, EKS and Java Docker images written by Matthew Casperson and published by Matthew Casperson. This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As container technologies steadily gained in popularity, there was an increasing need for a platform to orchestrate their deployment and monitor their execution. Multiple platforms exist to fulfill this role, but Kubernetes has become the de-facto standard.Every major cloud provider offers a hosted Kubernetes solution, and on AWS, that service is called Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). Kubernetes is only part of the solution. The Docker images deployed to a Kubernetes cluster are hosted in a Docker registry. In AWS, the Elastic Container Registry (ECR) provides a service for hosting Docker images. Combining ECR and EKS provides a complete Kubernetes solution for running containerized applications at scale. In this book, we document the process of creating a Java Docker image, pushing it to ECR, and deploying it to EKS.

Book Synopsis The Interplay between European Merger Control Law and the Liberalisation of European Electricity, Natural Gas and Petroleum Markets by : Henning Matthiesen
Download or read book The Interplay between European Merger Control Law and the Liberalisation of European Electricity, Natural Gas and Petroleum Markets written by Henning Matthiesen and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-04-21 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2020 in the subject Law - European and International Law, Intellectual Properties, grade: 2,2, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg (Fakultät Wirtschaftswissenschaften), language: English, abstract: This doctoral thesis examines how European merger control law is applied to the energy sector and to which extent its application may facilitate the liberalisation of the electricity, natural gas and petroleum industries so that only those concentrations will be cleared that honour the principles of the liberalisation directives. In 2007, the Commission emphasized that a real internal European energy market is essential to meet Europe’s three energy objectives. These were for example competitiveness to cut costs for citizens and undertakings to foster energy efficiency and investment, sustainability including emissions trading, and security of supply with high standards of public service obligations. The EU issued three pre-liberalisation directives since the 1990s. Dissatisfied with the existing monopolistic structures, in Germany through demarcation and exclusive concession agreements for the supply of electricity and natural gas, which were until 1998 exempted from the cartel prohibition provision, and the prevalence of exclusive rights on the energy markets, the Commission triggered infringement proceedings against four Member States. The CJEU confirmed that the Commission has the power to abolish monopoly rights under certain circumstances and the rulings had the effect of convincing the member states to enter into negotiations for an opening up of energy markets owing to the internal market energy liberalization directives 1996 / 1998 / 2003 / 2009 / 2019. The 2nd liberalisation package of 2003 brought a widening of market opening and acceleration of pace of market opening to a greater number of eligible customers and an increase in the provisions on management and legal unbundling. The 3rd energy package of 2009 addressed ownership unbundling of key-infrastructure ownership and energy wholesale and retail supply consisting of three regulations and two directives. The 4th liberalization package inter alia consists of a new IEMD2019 and IGMD2019 and addresses energy efficiency and rules on good governance in the Energy Union. A brief analysis of the economic implications of concentrations is followed by an assessment of the evolution of European merger control law since 1989, 1997 and 2004. Then, the theoretical findings are contrasted to the results of recent merger proceedings in the energy sector.
