Download or read book Économie écologique written by Tom Bauler and published by De Boeck Supérieur. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Valuing the Environment: Methodological and Measurement Issues by : Rüdiger Pethig
Download or read book Valuing the Environment: Methodological and Measurement Issues written by Rüdiger Pethig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decades, environmental economics as a science has been very successful in improving our understanding of environment-economy interdepen dence. Using conventional economic methodology, environmental aspects have been explicitly incorporated into economic models making use of the concept of externality. This concept was already familiar to economists long before evidence of severe environmental deterioration found its way into the headlines and peo ple's awareness. But before that time, external effects were not considered as being empirically very relevant, they seemed to be -like the example of the bees and the fruit trees - somewhat bucolic in nature. All that changed dramatically when it was no longer possible (or easy) to ignore the large-scale environmental disruption with its negative feedback on consumers and producers caused by growing pollution and excessive use of environmental resources. In diagnosing the discrepancy between private and social cost as the cause of the problem, the externality paradigm proved very useful. The correct diagnosis implies the straightforward cure to internalise all external cost, namely the damage cost of pollution. But it is one thing to identify the qualitative nature of the problem at an abstract conceptual level and quite another thing to place specific money values on pollution damage and society's valuation of the environment, respectively, in the context of specific pollution (control) problems. Very often it is controversial not only how inefficient the no-policy situation is but also what exactly the net benefit of any public action of reducing pollution is.
Book Synopsis Regulation Theory and Sustainable Development by : Corinne Gendron
Download or read book Regulation Theory and Sustainable Development written by Corinne Gendron and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that current economist theories do not take into account the socially constructed nature of the debate surrounding the environment and environmental policy. It examines whether proposed economic solutions to environmental policy are, in fact, viable in practice. The book demonstrates that social conflicts cause policy compromises, which shape the economic system of a post-industrial ecological society. The author offers an innovative socio-economic theory of environmental politics, which illuminates the transformation dynamics brought about by the ecological crisis. Regulation Theory and Sustainable Development will be of interest to students and scholars of environmental politics, policy and governance.

Book Synopsis Social Ethics and Normative Economics by : Marc Fleurbaey
Download or read book Social Ethics and Normative Economics written by Marc Fleurbaey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-11 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of thirteen essays on social ethics and normative economics honouring Serge-Christophe Kolm's seminal contributions to this field addresses the following questions: How should the public sector price its production and services? What are the normative foundations of criteria for comparing distributions of riches and advantages? How should intergenerational social immobility and inequality in circumstances be measured? What is a fair way to form partnerships? How vulnerable to manipulation is the Lindahl rule for allocating public goods? What are the properties of Kolm's ELIE tax proposal? Would the addition of EU-level income taxes enhance equity? How should we compare different scenarios for future societies with different population sizes? How can domain conditions in social choice theory be justified using Kolm's epistemic counterfactuals? How can Kolm's distributive liberal contract be implemented? What are the implications of norms of reciprocity for the organization of society? The answers to these questions give major insight into the state-of-the-art of social ethics and normative economics and are thus an indispensable source for researchers in both of these fields.
Book Synopsis Politiques économiques du développement durable by : Beat Bürgenmeier
Download or read book Politiques économiques du développement durable written by Beat Bürgenmeier and published by De Boeck Supérieur. This book was released on 2008-08-19 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Baseline Concept in Biodiversity Conservation by : Laurent Godet
Download or read book The Baseline Concept in Biodiversity Conservation written by Laurent Godet and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anthropocene era has been marked by such significant human pressure that it has led to the sixth mass extinction. The Baseline Concept in Biodiversity Conservation interprets human domination of the Earth as the process of gradual landscape change, the execution of which is neither linear nor homogeneous. This book is structured around three key questions: Where and when did everything go wrong? How do we define baseline states for biodiversity conservation strategies? How are reference states mobilized in a concrete way through case studies? Today, biodiversity conservation faces a dilemma that this book sheds light on: return to states less modified by humans than today but in a world that has changed significantly; or, let the nature of tomorrow express itself where it still can but without a road map.

Download or read book EFPA ESG Handbook written by Collective of authors, and published by Publishroom. This book was released on 2024-03-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 2021, the financial industry evolved to include ESG criteria in its products and processes. Thanks to regulatory pressures and public opinion, Sustainable Finance is becoming THE new standard for financial centres across Europe. However, a lack of knowledge and common definitions are still present to define its key concepts. Since 2021, EFPA Luxembourg launched an original initiative to democratise best practices in Sustainable Finance and establish clear and common definitions for its key concepts. Today, the EFPA ESG Handbook is joined by more than fifty entities and seventy co-authors sharing the same ambitions. Over the EFPA ESG Advisor certification, launched in 2021 and owned by more than 8’000 financial advisors across Europe, the European Financial Planning Association (EFPA) wants to help to close the gap between the current level of information and the level necessary due to increasing regulatory requirements around the integration of ESG criterion. This is why, the EFPA ESG Handbook is becoming digital, with the addition of a dedicated website to enrich its content, improve its update, and avoid its obsolescence. On this site and on top of their handbook, owners of the EFPA ESG Handbook will find enriched content, a regularly updated information base and practical tools for filtering the various headings on the site. History, regulation, investment products, investment process, risk management... this handbook offers a 360° point of view over the landscape of the Green Finance. We hope this journey will help the reader to have a better understanding of what Sustainable Finance means, looking at its framework, its aims, and its challenges. I wish you a pleasant reading.
