Book excerpt: Community Based Ecotourism is a form of tourism where local communities have substantial control over, and involvement in ecotourism development and management with a major proportion of the benefits accruing to the community. The study sought to access the potentials of Community Based Ecotourism in Iko-Esai Community of Cross River State in Nigeria. Both primary and secondary data were used for the study. Questionnaires and interviews were applied to collect primary data using a multistage method while secondary data were from relevant documents from CERCOPAN (an NGO operating in the area) as well as other past studies. A total of one hundred and forty-six (146) questionnaires were administered to respondents in two (2) selected wards in the community. Data were analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The research results revealed that CERCOPAN is the major body, assisting in Community Based Ecotourism in the Community. There are enormous ecotourism assets in the study area, including the rich tropical forests, wildlife species and cultural heritage of the people. Other sites yet to be developed are Ikpibitoi, Bagamukum, Agorom Epkun and Owai. Ecotourism in the area was reported to have registered significant positive impact on the natural environment and the people of the area through active participation in all aspects of tourism development while benefits from ecotourism are accrued to the community. The community has good potentials of being organized and eager to see tourism and biodiversity conservation play a vital role in its economy. The elders in the area are also well respected which is critical in Community Based Tourism development.

He photographed tourists photographing Indonesians, asking the group how they felt having their pictures taken without their permission. Book excerpt: REDD+ must be transformational. REDD+ requires broad institutional and governance reforms, such as tenure, decentralisation, and corruption control. These reforms will enable departures from business as usual, and involve communities and forest users in making and implementing policies that a ect them. Policies must go beyond forestry. REDD+ strategies must include policies outside the forestry sector narrowly de ned, such as agriculture and energy, and better coordinate across sectors to deal with non-forest drivers of deforestation and degradation. Performance-based payments are key, yet limited. Payments based on performance directly incentivise and compensate forest owners and users. But schemes such as payments for environmental services (PES) depend on conditions, such as secure tenure, solid carbon data and transparent governance, that are often lacking and take time to change. This constraint reinforces the need for broad institutional and policy reforms. We must learn from the past. Many approaches to REDD+ now being considered are similar to previous e orts to conserve and better manage forests, often with limited success. Taking on board lessons learned from past experience will improve the prospects of REDD+ e ectiveness. National circumstances and uncertainty must be factored in. Di erent country contexts will create a variety of REDD+ models with di erent institutional and policy mixes. Uncertainties about the shape of the future global REDD+ system, national readiness and political consensus require exibility and a phased approach to REDD+ implementation.

Of Nigeria's 36 states, 12 are Islamic and under the strong and growing influence of the Sokoto caliphate. While religious and ethnic violence are commonplace, the federal government has managed to strike a tenuous balance among the disparate religious and ethnic factions. We focus on Chinese investments and partnerships in Nigeria, a salient destination for Chinese manufacturing foreign direct investment in Africa, and examine the potential mechanisms of technology transfer that might catalyze such transformation. We find some small but significant cases of potential technology transfer, particularly through technical partnerships between firms. However, the future potential of such mechanisms will depend on the initiative of Nigerian actors to leverage Chinese investment to their interest.
