Book Synopsis Pork Production Systems by : Wilson G. Pond
Download or read book Pork Production Systems written by Wilson G. Pond and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pork continues to occupy an important position as a food source in affluent societies as well as in developing countries with slower economic growth. The growth of the world swine population continues at a faster rate than that of the human population, a reflection of the sustained demand for pork in all parts of the world. The technical basis for commercial production of swine was presented in our two earlier textbooks-Swine Production in Temperate and Tropical Environ ments, by Pond and Maner, 1974, and Swine Production and Nutrition, by Pond and Maner, 1984. In view of rapidly advancing technology and an appreciation for the systems approach in industry and agriculture, this third book has been restructured to provide the student and practitioner with an integrated concept of pork production. We have attempted to blend the fundamental principles from genetics, physiology, nutrition, and biotechnology into the modern concepts of systems analysis and simulation modeling. The objective is to create a teaching approach which empha sizes the integrated synthesis of biological with physical and environmental sci ences and economics. This approach is expected to provide an overall pork pro duction systems view that individual producers can adapt to their specific resources, needs, and goals. Our new co-author, Dr. Dewey Harris, has used his expertise and perspective on interacting systems to change the complexion of the book to fulfill this objective. In addition, Dr.

Book Synopsis Geothermal Heat Pump and Heat Engine Systems by : Andrew D. Chiasson
Download or read book Geothermal Heat Pump and Heat Engine Systems written by Andrew D. Chiasson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique approach to the study of geothermal energy systems This book takes a unique, holistic approach to the interdisciplinary study of geothermal energy systems, combining low, medium, and high temperature applications into a logical order. The emphasis is on the concept that all geothermal projects contain common elements of a "thermal energy reservoir" that must be properly designed and managed. The book is organized into four sections that examine geothermal systems: energy utilization from resource and site characterization; energy harnessing; energy conversion (heat pumps, direct uses, and heat engines); and energy distribution and uses. Examples are provided to highlight fundamental concepts, in addition to more complex system design and simulation. Key features: Companion website containing software tools for application of fundamental principles and solutions to real-world problems. Balance of theory, fundamental principles, and practical application. Interdisciplinary treatment of the subject matter. Geothermal Heat Pump & Heat Engine Systems: Theory and Practice is a unique textbook for Energy Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students as well as practicing engineers who are involved with low-enthalpy geothermal energy systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first European edition of Francis DK Ching’s classic visual guide to the basics of building construction. For nearly four decades, the US publication Building Construction Illustrated has offered an outstanding introduction to the principles of building construction. This new European edition focuses on the construction methods most commonly used in Europe, referring largely to UK Building Regulations overlaid with British and European, while applying Francis DK Ching’s clear graphic signature style. It provides a coherent and essential primer, presenting all of the basic concepts underlying building construction and equipping readers with useful guidelines for approaching any new materials or techniques they may encounter. European Building Construction Illustrated provides a comprehensive and lucid presentation of everything from foundations and floor systems to finish work. Laying out the material and structural choices available, it provides a full understanding of how these choices affect a building′s form and dimensions. Complete with more than 1000 illustrations, the book moves through each of the key stages of the design process, from site selection to building components, mechanical systems and finishes. Illustrated throughout with clear and accurate drawings that effectively communicate construction processes and materials Provides an overview of the mainstream construction methods used in Europe Based around the UK regulatory framework, the book refers to European level regulations where appropriate. References leading environmental assessment methods of BREEAM and LEED, while outlining the Passive House Standard Includes emerging construction methods driven by the sustainability agenda, such as structural insulated panels and insulating concrete formwork Features a chapter dedicated to construction in the Middle East, focusing on the Gulf States

With over 2,200 drawings and photographs, the book discusses basic theory, preliminary building design guidelines, and detailed design procedure for buildings of all sizes. The updated twelfth edition includes over 300 new illustrations, plus information on the latest design trends, codes, and technologies, while the companion website offers new interactive features including animations, additional case studies, quizzes, and more. Environmental control systems are the components of a building that keep occupants comfortable and help make the building work. Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for Buildings covers both active controls, like air conditioners and heaters, as well as passive controls like daylighting and natural ventilation. Because these systems comprise the entire energy use and costs of a building's life, the book stresses the importance of sustainability considerations during the design process, by both architects and builders. Authored by two leading green design educators, MEEB provides the most current information on low-energy architecture, including topics like: Context, comfort, and environmental resources Indoor air quality and thermal control Illumination, acoustics, and electricity Fire protection, signal systems, and transportation Occupant comfort and building usability are the most critical factors in the success of a building design, and with environmental concerns mounting, it's becoming more and more important to approach projects from a sustainable perspective from the very beginning. As the definitive guide to environmental control systems for over 75 years, Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for Buildings is a complete resource for students and professionals alike.

Book Synopsis Health and Well-Being Considerations in the Design of Indoor Environments by : González-Lezcano, Roberto A.
Download or read book Health and Well-Being Considerations in the Design of Indoor Environments written by González-Lezcano, Roberto A. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-06-25 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indoor residential environments have a direct influence on human health, both in developed and developing countries. Significant levels of indoor pollution can make housing unsafe and can negatively impact on human health. Housing, therefore, is a key health factor for people all over the world, and various parameters such as air quality, ventilation, hygrothermal comfort, lighting, physical environment, building efficiency, and others can contribute to healthy architecture and the conditions that can result from the poor application of these parameters. Health and Well-Being Considerations in the Design of Indoor Environments addresses issues concerning indoor environmental quality (IEQ), including air quality and ventilation, access to daylight and views, acoustic conditions, and control over lighting and thermal comfort, as well as the impact that this environment can have on human health and mental well-being. The book also investigates the functional aspects of interior design such as whether the layout provides easy access to tools and sufficient space for occupants. It also considers energy demand and building energy losses due to such issues as air renovations and enclosure infiltrations. Covering topics such as sustainable design, pollution, building materials, and lighting, this book is an effective resource for students, professors, academicians, researchers, architects, designers, planners, engineers, interior designers, building managers, construction companies, and other industry professionals looking to increase building occupant satisfaction by considering all aspects of IEQ.
