Book excerpt: QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHODS THE DEFINITIVE STEP-BY-STEP RESOURCE FOR QUALITATIVE AND ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH Qualitative Research Methods: Collecting Evidence, Crafting Analysis, Communicating Impact is a comprehensive guide on both the theoretical foundations and practical application of qualitative methodology. Adopting a phronetic-iterative approach, this foundational book leads readers through the chronological progression of a qualitative research project, from designing a study and collecting and analyzing data to developing theories and effectively communicating the results–allowing readers to employ qualitative methods in their projects as they follow each chapter. Coverage of topics such as qualitative theories, ethics, sampling, interview techniques, qualitative quality, and advice on practical fieldwork provides clear and concise guidance on how to design and conduct sound research projects. Easy-to-follow instructions on iterative qualitative data analysis explain how to organize, code, interpret, make claims, and build theory. Throughout, the author offers her own backstage stories about fieldwork, analysis, drafting, writing, and publishing, revealing the emotional and humorous aspects of practicing qualitative methods. Now in its second edition, this thorough and informative text includes new and expanded material covering post-qualitative research, phenomenology, textual analysis and cultural studies, gaining access to elite and difficult to access populations, persuasive writing, novel interviewing approaches, and more. Numerous examples, case studies, activities, and discussion questions have been updated to reflect current research and ensure contemporary relevance. Written in an engaging and accessible narrative style by an acclaimed scholar and researcher Offers new and updated examples of coding and qualitative analysis, full-color photos and illustrations, and a companion instructor website Synthesizes the most up-to-date multidisciplinary literature on qualitative research methods including seven main approaches to qualitative inquiry: grounded theory, case study, ethnography and ethnography of communication, phenomenology, narrative inquiry and autoethnography, participatory action research, and creative, performative, and arts-based research Presents innovative qualitative data collection methods and modern representation strategies, such as virtual ethnography, photovoice, and mobile interviewing Qualitative Research Methods: Collecting Evidence, Crafting Analysis, Communicating Impact is an ideal resource for undergraduate and graduate students, instructors, and faculty across multiple disciplines including the social sciences, healthcare, education, management, and the humanities, and for practitioners seeking expert guidance on practical qualitative methods.

Book Synopsis Great Minds in Management by : Ken G. Smith
Download or read book Great Minds in Management written by Ken G. Smith and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-09-22 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Great Minds In Management Ken G. Smith and Michael A. Hitt have brought together some of the most influential and original thinkers in management. Their contributions to this volume not only outline their landmark contributions to management theory, but also reflect on the process of theory development, presenting their own personal accounts of the gestation of these theories. The result is not only an ambitious and original panorama of the key ideas in management theory presented by their originators, but also a unique collection of reflections on the process of theory development, an area which to date little has been written about by those who have actually had experience of building theory. In their concluding chapter, Ken G. Smith and Michael A. Hitt draw together some common themes about the development of management theory over the last half a century, and suggest some of the conclusions to be drawn about how theory comes into being. Book Synopsis Transdisciplinary Engineering: A Paradigm Shift by : C.-H. Chen
Download or read book Transdisciplinary Engineering: A Paradigm Shift written by C.-H. Chen and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 1092 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concurrent Engineering is based on the concept that different phases of a product life cycle should be conducted concurrently and initiated as early as possible within the Product Creation Process (PCP). Its main goal is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the PCP and reduce errors in the later stages, and to incorporate considerations for the full lifecycle, through-life operations, and environmental issues of the product. It has become the substantive basic methodology in many industries, and the initial basic concepts have matured and become the foundation of many new ideas, methodologies, initiatives, approaches and tools. This book presents the proceedings of the 24th ISPE Inc. International Conference on Transdisciplinary (formerly: Concurrent) Engineering (TE 2017), held in Singapore, in July 2017. The 120 peer-reviewed papers in the book are divided into 16 sections: air transport and traffic operations and management; risk-aware supply chain intelligence; product innovation and marketing management; human factors in design; human engineering; design methods and tools; decision supporting tools and methods; concurrent engineering; knowledge-based engineering; collaborative engineering; engineering for sustainability; service design; digital manufacturing; design automation; artificial intelligence and data analytics; smart systems and the Internet of Things. The book provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in transdisciplinary concurrent engineering research and applications, and will be of interest to researchers, design practitioners and educators working in the field.
Book Synopsis Developing Sanity in Human Affairs by : Susan Kodish
Download or read book Developing Sanity in Human Affairs written by Susan Kodish and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1998-12-30 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can humans learn to function most effectively in their individual and social lives and best approach important ethical and social concerns? Developing Sanity in Human Affairs answers this question through application of general semantics to the fields of education, counseling, communication, critical thinking, journalism, and ethics. General semantics, developed by Alfred Korzybski, is concerned with how humans can learn to evaluate and act more responsibly in conducting their individual and social lives. The chapters in this collection deal with these issues in education and counseling, social and cultural areas, critical thinking, communications, humanism, and ethics. Highlights include the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture, which bridges past and present work in general semantics and applications to important current problems in media and other areas of communication. Traditional and revisionist perspectives on foundations in general semantics are presented, as are dialogues on critical thinking and general semantics.
Book Synopsis From Theory to Practice in Multi-Agent Systems by : Barbara Dunin-Keplicz

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at CEEMAS 2001. The wo- shop was the fourth in a series of international conferences devoted to autonomous agents and multi-agent systems organized in Central-Eastern Europe. Its predecessors wereCEEMAS’99andDAIMAS’97,whichtookplaceinSt. Petersburg,Russia, aswell as DIMAS’95, which took place in Cracow, Poland. Organizers of all these events made efforts to make them wide-open to participants from all over the world. This would have been impossible without some help from friendly centers in the Czech Republic, England, France, Japan, and The Netherlands. DIMAS’95 featured papers from 15 countries, while CEEMAS’99 from 18 co- tries. A total of 61 papers were submitted to CEEMAS 2001 from 17 countries. Out of these papers, 31 were selected for regular presentation, while 14 were quali ed as posters. The motto of the meeting was “Diversity is the core of multi-agent systems". This variety of subjects was clearly visible in the CEEMAS 2001 program, addressing the following major areas of multi-agent systems: – Organizations and social aspects of multi-agent systems – Agent and multi-agent system architectures, models, and formalisms – Communication languages, protocols, and negotiation – Applications of multi-agent systems – Agent and multi-agent development tools – Theoretical foundations of DistributedAI – Learning in multi-agent systems The richness of workshop subjects was ensured thanks to the CEEMAS 2001 contributing authors as well as the keynote speakers.
