Book Synopsis Advanced Structural Dynamics by : Eduardo Kausel
Download or read book Advanced Structural Dynamics written by Eduardo Kausel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developed from three decades' worth of lecture notes which the author used to teach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, this unique textbook presents a comprehensive treatment of structural dynamics and mechanical vibration. The chapters in this book are self-contained so that instructors can choose to be selective about which topics they teach. Written with an application-based focus, the text covers topics such as earthquake engineering, soil dynamics, and relevant numerical methods techniques that use MATLAB. Advanced topics such as the Hilbert transform, gyroscope forces, and spatially periodic structures are also treated extensively. Concise enough for an introductory course yet rigorous enough for an advanced or graduate-level course, this textbook is also a useful reference manual - even after the final exam - for professional and practicing engineers.
Book Synopsis Boundary Element Methods for Soil-Structure Interaction by : W.S. Hall

This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: W S HALL School of Computing and Mathematics, University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, TS1 3BA UK G OLIVETO Division of Structural Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Catania, Viale A. Doria 6, 95125 Catania, Italy Soil-Structure Interaction is a challenging multidisciplinary subject which covers several areas of Civil Engineering. Virtually every construction is connected to the ground and the interaction between the artefact and the foundation medium may affect considerably both the superstructure and the foundation soil. The Soil-Structure Interaction problem has become an important feature of Structural Engineering with the advent of massive constructions on soft soils such as nuclear power plants, concrete and earth dams. Buildings, bridges, tunnels and underground structures may also require particular attention to be given to the problems of Soil-Structure Interaction. Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction is prominent in Earthquake Engineering problems. The complexity of the problem, due also to its multidisciplinary nature and to the fact of having to consider bounded and unbounded media of different mechanical characteristics, requires a numerical treatment for any application of engineering significance. The Boundary Element Method appears to be well suited to solve problems of Soil- Structure Interaction through its ability to discretize only the boundaries of complex and often unbounded geometries. Non-linear problems which often arise in Soil-Structure Interaction may also be treated advantageously by a judicious mix of Boundary and Finite Element discretizations.

Book Synopsis Scattering of Seismic Waves by : E. Reinoso
Download or read book Scattering of Seismic Waves written by E. Reinoso and published by Computational Mechanics. This book was released on 2002 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title deals with the application of boundary element technology to the study of scattering of seismic waves from irregular topographies and buried valleys. The author presents numerical refinements that allow the practical computation of two- and three-dimensional problems and then proves that these are accurate and efficient when compared with presently available solutions. The refinements are then applied to reproduce amplifications observed in the Mexico City Valley.
