Her record-setting flight was the first solo circumnavigation by a woman. She never lost her hunger for speed and adventure. When she was 78, she test-drove a Ford race car at 110 mph. At the age of 81, she publicized the release of her autobiography by looping the loop in a small plane. Her racing days over at last, she finally ran out of her own personal fuel, adrenaline. She died in 1990, at the age of 94. Her autobiography was titled 'Nine Lives Plus'; she lived every one of them to the fullest.
