Book Synopsis Diversifying Philosophy of Religion by : Nathan R. B. Loewen
Download or read book Diversifying Philosophy of Religion written by Nathan R. B. Loewen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-06-01 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much philosophical thinking about religion in the Anglophone world has been hampered by the constraints of Eurocentrism, colonialism and orientalism. Addressing such limitations head-on, this exciting collection develops models for exploring global diversity in order to bring philosophical studies of religion into the globalized 21st century. Drawing on a wide range of critical theories and methodologies, and incorporating ethnographic, feminist, computational, New Animist and cognitive science approaches, an international team of contributors outline the methods and aims of global philosophy of religion. From considering the importance of orality in African worldviews to interacting with Native American perspectives on the cosmos and investigating contemplative studies in Hinduism, each chapter demonstrates how expertise in different methods can be applied to various geographical regions, building constructive options for philosophical reflections on religion. Diversifying Philosophy of Religion raises important questions regarding who speaks for and represents religious traditions, setting the agenda for a truly inclusive philosophy of religion that facilitates multiple standpoints.

Book excerpt: This book is an enquiry into the concept of the 'self', transcending the barriers of 'non-self' and realizing the non-dual Consciousness within and without. This concept is the central theme of Advaita Vedanta. The Drg-drsya-viveka is a short treatise of forty-six Sanskrit verses which analyses the illusory perceptions of names and forms in the states of dreams and waking as well. The commentator gives a scientific explanation of the meaning of Self and Non Self, helping the reader to discriminate and separate the observer (drk) from the observed objects (drsya).

Book Synopsis Accelerating Human Evolution by Theosophical Initiation by : Yves Mühlematter
Download or read book Accelerating Human Evolution by Theosophical Initiation written by Yves Mühlematter and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-12-19 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main subjects of analysis in the present book are the stages of initiation in the grand scheme of Theosophical evolution. These initiatory steps are connected to an idea of evolutionary self-development by means of a set of virtues that are relative to the individual’s position on the path of evolution. The central thesis is that these stages were translated from the “Hindu” tradition to the “Theosophical” tradition through multifaceted “hybridization processes” in which several Indian members of the Theosophical Society partook. Starting with Annie Besant’s early Theosophy, the stages of initiation are traced through Blavatsky’s work to Manilal Dvivedi and T. Subba Row, both Indian members of the Theosophical Society, and then on to the Sanâtana Dharma Text Books. In 1898, the English Theosophist Annie Besant and the Indian Theosophist Bhagavan Das together founded the Central Hindu College, Benares, which became the nucleus around which the Benares Hindu University was instituted in 1915. In this context the Sanâtana Dharma Text Books were published. Mühlematter shows that the stages of initiation were the blueprint for Annie Besant’s pedagogy, which she implemented in the Central Hindu College in Benares. In doing so, he succeeds in making intelligible how “esoteric” knowledge was transferred to public institutions and how a broader public could be reached as a result. The dissertation has been awarded the ESSWE PhD Thesis prize 2022 by the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism.
Book Synopsis Drig-Drisya-Viveka by : Swami Nikhilananda

This book was released on with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drig-Drishya-Viveka, as the name indicates, is a Vedantic treatise of 46 verses inquiring into the nature of the ‘Seer’ (Drig) and the ‘See’ (Drishya), an inquiry which is of utmost importance for understanding the conclusions of the Vedanta philosophy. This brief treatise compresses much information into its body of few verses. The book contains the original text in Devanagari, its word-by-word meaning in English, a running translation, and exhaustive notes by Swami Nikhilananda. Three names are generally associated with the authorship of Drig-Drishya-Viveka, a prakarana treatise of the Vedanta philosophy, one of them being Sri Sankaracharya. The author of this translation is led to believe that the author of the treatise is Bharati Tirtha, head of the Sringeri Math from 1328 AD to 1380 AD. Published by Advaita Ashrama, a publication house of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, India.
