Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

Book excerpt: Green and Intelligent Technologies for Sustainable and Smart Asphalt Pavements contains 124 papers from 14 different countries which were presented at the 5th International Symposium on Frontiers of Road and Airport Engineering (IFRAE 2021, Delft, the Netherlands, 12-14 July 2021). The contributions focus on research in the areas of "Circular, Sustainable and Smart Airport and Highway Pavement" and collects the state-of-the-art and state-of-practice areas of long-life and circular materials for sustainable, cost-effective smart airport and highway pavement design and construction. The main areas covered by the book include: • Green and sustainable pavement materials • Recycling technology • Warm & cold mix asphalt materials • Functional pavement design • Self-healing pavement materials • Eco-efficiency pavement materials • Pavement preservation, maintenance and rehabilitation • Smart pavement materials and structures • Safety technology for smart roads • Pavement monitoring and big data analysis • Role of transportation engineering in future pavements Green and Intelligent Technologies for Sustainable and Smart Asphalt Pavements aims at researchers, practitioners, and administrators interested in new materials and innovative technologies for achieving sustainable and renewable pavement materials and design methods, and for those involved or working in the broader field of pavement engineering.
Book Synopsis Materials Testing by : Department of the Army
Download or read book Materials Testing written by Department of the Army and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-08-24 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides the technical information necessary for military and other personnel to obtain samples and perform engineering tests and calculations on soils, bituminous paving mixtures, and concrete. These tests and calculations are required to achieve proper design with these materials and adequate control over their use in military and other construction. This manual covers soils, aggregates, bituminous cements, bituminous paving mixtures, Portland cement concrete, and stabilized soil including stabilizing agents such as bitumens, cements, lime, fly ash, and chemical modifiers. The manual gives detailed instructions for taking adequate representative test samples and step-by-step procedures for making physical properties tests and for recording, calculating, and evaluating the test results. The manual describes the tools and equipment for performing these tests and contains general instructions for the care, calibration, and use of test equipment.

Book Synopsis Deformation Characteristics of Granular Materials Subjected to Rapid, Repetitive Loading by : Wayne A. Dunlap
Download or read book Deformation Characteristics of Granular Materials Subjected to Rapid, Repetitive Loading written by Wayne A. Dunlap and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The engineering behavior of soils and aggregates is a function of their basic properties and the environment to which they are subjected. In pavement design the effect of repeated loading is in important environmental condition which has received little attention, especially for granular materials. This report present results showing the influence of repetitive triaxial stressing on the deformation of granular (flexible base course) materials. The materials examined were a) hard rounded material (gravel), b) hard angular material manufactured by crushing oversized pieces of the gravel, and c) a soft crushed limestone. Each material -- except the soft -- was tested at three separate gradations representing the coarse, medium and fine ranges allowed by Texas Highway Department specifications for such materials. The total strain characteristics of the materials were quantitatively related to the applied stresses and number of stress repetitions. It was shown that the behavior under repetitive stresses was not closely related to static shear strengths as determined by the Texas triaxial method. Rebound strains could only be expressed qualitatively. Under repetitive stressing the rounded material, which ranked lowest in static shear tests, was at least equivalent to the angular material for the stress range expected in roadways; both were superior to the soft material. It is believed that the relative densities of the respective materials influenced their behavior more than particle shape or hardness. Finally, recommendations were made for improving equipment and testing procedures which should simplify analysis of results and reduce experimental error in future investigations.
