Book Synopsis Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures VI by : C. A. Brebbia
Download or read book Earthquake Resistant Engineering Structures VI written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of protecting the built environment in earthquake-prone regions of the world involves not only the optimal design and construction of new facilities, but also the upgrading and rehabilitation of existing structures and infrastructures. The latter is a laborious and expensive task, which can be accomplished only gradually. However, the inestimable loss of life and the colossal costs following a major earthquake in a metropolitan area provide sufficient reason to make it an important challenge for the scientific and technical community.Containing papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Earthquake Resistance and Engineering Structures, this book will be invaluable to engineers, scientists and managers working in industry, academia, research organizations and governments. The book encompasses a wide range of topics such as: Site Effects and Geotechnical aspects; Earthquake resistant design; Seismic Behaviour and Vulnerability; Structural Dynamics; Monitoring and Testing; Bridges; Heritage Buildings; Masonry Construction; Retrofitting; Passive Protection Devices and Seismic Isolation; Lifelines; Design Codes and Response Spectre.

Book Synopsis Seismic Design Methods for Steel Building Structures by : George A. Papagiannopoulos
Download or read book Seismic Design Methods for Steel Building Structures written by George A. Papagiannopoulos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book, after two introductory chapters on seismic design principles and structural seismic analysis methods, proceeds with the detailed description of seismic design methods for steel building structures. These methods include all the well-known methods, like force-based or displacement-based methods, plus some other methods developed by the present authors or other authors that have reached a level of maturity and are applicable to a large class of steel building structures. For every method, detailed practical examples and supporting references are provided in order to illustrate the methods and demonstrate their merits. As a unique feature, the present book describes not just one, as it is the case with existing books on seismic design of steel structures, but various seismic design methods including application examples worked in detail. The book is a valuable source of information, not only for MS and PhD students, but also for researchers and practicing engineers engaged with the design of steel building structures.

Book Synopsis Local/global Approach to Nonlinear Simulation of Compliant Marine Structures by : Robert Felice Zueck
Download or read book Local/global Approach to Nonlinear Simulation of Compliant Marine Structures written by Robert Felice Zueck and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents reliable techniques for modeling extremely compliant structures. The research focuses on severe geometric nonlinearities associated with very large displacements and rotations. The solution requires two major modeling improvements: formulation of well-conditioned finite elements and development of specific control strategies for nonlinear step-by-step solution. Inherent in the physics of the structure, natural events condition the new finite elements. Associated event control directs the numerical solution to adhere closely to the true nonlinear structural response path. The numerical strategies are a simple extension of the trapezoidal rule for time integration and Newton iteration for nonlinear step-by-step solution. The result is extremely fast, efficient, and stable nonlinear structural simulation. A high level of computational robustness is essential for development of fully nonlinear substructured models. A local/global approach allows each substructure to have its own specialized local submodel and its own associated local solution strategy. A global model then integrates all the super-element representations of each diverse submodel. The local/global framework allows the nonlinear solution strategies to efficiently concentrate computational power where and when needed among the submodels. Code development and test problems focus primarily on compliant marine structures, where the need for robust, highly nonlinear simulation is so great.

This book was released on 2005-01-20 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Around 100 scientists from 21 countries contributed to the four years of assembled works contained in this volume. Launched in May 2000, the aims of this cooperative action were: * to develop, combine and disseminate new technical engineering technologies * to improve the quality of urban buildings * to propose new technical solutions to architects and planners * to reduce the disturbance caused by construction in urban areas and improve urban quality of life. This publication is the final report of COST C12, and includes datasheets of key information related to mixed building technology, structural integrity under exception actions, and urban design.
Book Synopsis Seismic Design and Assessment of Bridges by : Andreas J. Kappos
Download or read book Seismic Design and Assessment of Bridges written by Andreas J. Kappos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-18 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book focuses on the use of inelastic analysis methods for the seismic assessment and design of bridges, for which the work carried out so far, albeit interesting and useful, is nevertheless clearly less than that for buildings. Although some valuable literature on the subject is currently available, the most advanced inelastic analysis methods that emerged during the last decade are currently found only in the specialised research-oriented literature, such as technical journals and conference proceedings. Hence the key objective of this book is two-fold, first to present all important methods belonging to the aforementioned category in a uniform and sufficient for their understanding and implementation length, and to provide also a critical perspective on them by including selected case-studies wherein more than one methods are applied to a specific bridge and by offering some critical comments on the limitations of the individual methods and on their relative efficiency. The book should be a valuable tool for both researchers and practicing engineers dealing with seismic design and assessment of bridges, by both making the methods and the analytical tools available for their implementation, and by assisting them to select the method that best suits the individual bridge projects that each engineer and/or researcher faces.
