Book excerpt: For many years the integration of the location of land use and activities in spatial systems, as well as the provision of transport in movement of goods, services and people, has been recognized as a challenge amongst various specialists, including: engineers, transportation planners, economists, environmentalists, urban and regional planners and developers. The purpose of this book is to address transportation modelling in terms of technology, techniques and methodology application in context to the interface between transportation systems, land use planning, and environmental challenges and application. The methodology of transportation modelling is applied to international practices and application based on specific case studies, inclusive of public transportation projects; transportation modelling techniques in practice; international research agenda; network design and channel strategies; strategic planning; application of technology in traffic surveys and interpretation; emissions from transportation systems; application of mathematical models and the interface between environment, land use and development in terms of location in space and the resulting activities. Of value to both theorists and practitioners, this book references the integration of transportation modelling techniques within an interdisciplinary environment inside all spatial systems.

Download or read book Sustainable Development Policy Directory written by W. Alan Strong and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Directory means that a whole range of built environment professionals need never be caught out by the perversities of policy – in its formulation or on its journey into the real life of you and me. To have in one place the means of not only burrowing down into any one policy, but also of exploring the interconnections is a precious resource for any professional - ‘sustainability literate’ or not. Today, nobody who delivers our built environment can be excused from taking responsibility for the future. Armed with this Directory their contribution can only be made more effective. Sara Parkin OBE Forum for the Future This desk-top reference on sustainable development provides essential information for all who need to be up-to-date and familiar with the implications of the legal, fiscal and planning frameworks around the global and local sustainability agenda. It is relevant to a range of organisations and individuals - from national and local authorities, professional bodies, built environment professions, academia, environmental consultancies, non-governmental organisations and others. Carefully designed to facilitate access for a diverse range of stakeholders, it covers international, European, British and local policies in key built environment themes, and develops their inter-relationship to sustainable development. The Directory addresses each theme in a series of tables which summarise the policy purpose and also provide web-links to view the specific policy documents. The themes covered are: · Biodiversity · Climate Change · Construction · Energy · Environment · Planning · Pollution · Social Issues · Sustainable Development Policy and Practice · Transport · Urban Development · Waste Management · Water Other books of interest: The Green Guide to Specification Anderson ISBN: 1405119616 Smart & Sustainable Built Environments Yang Hardback ISBN: 1405124229 Sustainable Property Development Keeping Paperback ISBN: 0632058048 Previously Developed Land Syms Paperback 1405106972 Evaluating Sustainable Development Brandon 0632064862 Cover design by Garth Stewart www.thatconstructionsite.com

Book Synopsis Natural environment white paper by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee

This book was released on 2012-07-17 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee express concern that, more than one year on from publication of the natural environment white paper, "The Natural Choice: securing the value of nature" (Cm. 8082, ISBN 9780101808224), Defra has failed to set out clear plans to ensure that government decision-making fully values the services nature provides. All government policy should fully value natural capital. Government Ministers must also: publish an action plan with a timetable to deliver each of the White Paper's 92 commitments; give planners and developers guidance on how the National Planning Policy Framework can be used to protect Nature Improvement Areas; fully assess the benefits and costs of environmental regulation, to prevent a perception that environmental protection imposes a drag on the UK economy; publish the Government's response to advice from the Natural Capital Committee. The report also concludes that: biodiversity offsetting can deliver positive impacts on the natural environment; the target to end all peat use by 2030 shows a lamentable lack of ambition and a review of progress must be brought forward to 2014; Defra must set a target to increase public engagement with nature, since local authorities, NGOs and charities can only secure funding for environmental projects when they can demonstrate measurable success; the Department for Health and the Department for Education must define measurements which demonstrate how greater public engagement with nature delivers gains in public health and educational attainment; the entire coastal path around England should be in place within 10 years.

Book Synopsis Accelerating China's Rural Transformation by : Albert Nyberg
Download or read book Accelerating China's Rural Transformation written by Albert Nyberg and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: QUOTE...two issues remain central to the [Chinese] government's rural development objectives: food security and poverty alleviation. China has made remarkable progress in meeting these goals: the economy, including the rural sector, has grown at phenomenal rates during the reform period.QUOTEWhile China's rural products, input, labor, and land markets are improving, they remain nascent. China still needs to foster several critical institutions, such as an effective fiscal system, a more efficient rural financial system, a workable land tenure arrangement, and a revamped trade and investment environment for agriculture. The primary purpose of this report is to identify and consolidate information on these crucial issues that impact on rural development in China. This report assesses strategic options from the perspective of efficiency, equitable development, and growth. It is intended to assist government officials and World Bank staff to prioritize policy and institutional reforms and public investment decisions in the rural sector.
