Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Combining a non-invasive transcranial stimulation technique with another therapeutic approach: mechanisms of action, therapeutic interest and tolerance by : Jean Paul Buu Cuong Nguyen
Download or read book Combining a non-invasive transcranial stimulation technique with another therapeutic approach: mechanisms of action, therapeutic interest and tolerance written by Jean Paul Buu Cuong Nguyen and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous publications have attested to the therapeutic efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and low-intensity transcranial electrical stimulation (tES). These methods have been used in the treatment of various neurological-related conditions, such as chronic pain, cognitive disorders, movement disorders, or stroke rehabilitation. Across these different fields, evidence suggests therapeutic efficacy could be improved when combining NIBS technique in combination with another type of more commonly utilized therapeutic approaches (e.g., motor and/or cognitive training, pharmacological, physical and neurorehabilitation).

Book Synopsis World Health Organization Guidelines on the Pharmacological Treatment of Persisting Pain in Children with Medical Illnesses by : World Health Organization
Download or read book World Health Organization Guidelines on the Pharmacological Treatment of Persisting Pain in Children with Medical Illnesses written by World Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These guidelines have been developed to support countries to relieve pain in their paediatric populations. These guidelines address persisting pain in children caused by conditions such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, sickle-cell disease, burns, trauma, and phantom limb pain. Recommendations -- developed following a careful and transparent appraisal of available evidence -- are presented for the pharmacological treatment of mild, moderate and severe pain. The guidelines include chapters on the various systems used to classify pain and on the evaluation of pain, which reviews the available tools for routine pain measurement in children. Provision of sustainable pain relief within health care systems is covered in a separate chapter. Since morphine and other opioid analgesics -- required for the relief of moderate-to-severe pain in children -- are listed under the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the new guidelines include an annex explaining the Convention's requirements for the handling and procurement of opioid analgesics for the relief of pain.
Book Synopsis Tumor Ablation by : Eric van Sonnenberg
Download or read book Tumor Ablation written by Eric van Sonnenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-08 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an enormous sense of excitement in the communities of cancer research and cancer care as we move into the middle third of the ?rst decade of the 21st century. For the ?rst time, there is a true sense of c- ?dence that the tools provided by the human genome project will enable cancer researchers to crack the code of genomic abnormalities that allow tumor cells to live within the body and provide highly speci?c, virtually non-toxic therapies for the eradication,or at least ?rm control of human cancers. There is also good reason to hope that these same lines of inquiry will yield better tests for screening, early detection, and prev- tion of progression beyond curability. While these developments provide a legitimate basis for much op- mism, many patients will continue to develop cancers and suffer from their debilitating effects, even as research moves ahead. For these in- viduals, it is imperative that the cancer ?eld make the best possible use of the tools available to provide present day cancer patients with the best chances for cure, effective palliation, or, at the very least, relief from symptoms caused by acute intercurrent complications of cancer. A modality that has emerged as a very useful approach to at least some of these goals is tumor ablation by the use of physical or physiochemical approaches.

Download or read book Pain in Children written by Gary A. Walco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances over the past two decades have enabled physicians to revolutionize the manner in which they can assess and manage children’s pain. Thirty years ago it was thought that young children did not experience pain and therefore it was not necessary to treat it. Today professionals from a variety of disciplines have contributed data that have revolutionized medical perspectives. Technological advances now enable doctors to treat acute pain in fetuses, premature neonates, infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents with increasing precision and efficacy. Research highlighting the context of chronic pain has moved them away from a mind-body dichotomy and toward an integrated, holistic perspective that leads to substantial improvement in children’s adaptive functioning as well as subjective discomfort. This book covers these topics and is intended for anyone who provides medical care to children. Each chapter provides an overview of the problem, followed by a "hands on" description of relevant assessment and intervention strategies. The role of the primary care practitioner is highlighted, both as a front-line resource as well as a consumer of specialized pediatric pain treatment services. Each chapter ends with a summary and specific bullet points highlighting the most central elements, making for quick and easy reference.

This book was released on 2006-02-27 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: in the human visceral pleura is the sole reliable criterion for the statement that it belongs to the ‘thick type’, while all observed animals have a ‘thin’ type VP. The mesothelium and underlying structures of the SM represent a highly permeable bidirectional membrane with signi?cant differences in the organ and region tra- port as a local phenomenon after horseradish peroxidase application. Stomata are constant features seen by SEM, but are occasional ?ndings observed by TEM over both sides of the diaphragm, lower intercostal spaces, anterior abdominal wall and greater omentum in untreated animals. Our data extend the location of stomata over the liver and broad ligament of the uterus. We strictly de?ned and nominated the main structures of the lymphatic regions as lymphatic units, stomata, and LL. Several different types of vascularization of omental and extraomental (medias- nal pleura and lesser pelvis) MS are observed after India ink application. Human and animal differences in their location, mesothelial covering, the vessel (blood and lymphatic) supply, free and connective tissue cells and their arrangement are discussed. The mesothelium and the BL changes start early in the gestation and continue throughout the postnatal period. Both cell types (?at and cubic) are already evident through prenatal life.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Psychiatry in Palliative Medicine by : Harvey Max Chochinov
Download or read book Handbook of Psychiatry in Palliative Medicine written by Harvey Max Chochinov and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychiatric, or psychosocial, palliative care has transformed palliative medicine. Palliation that neglects psychosocial dimensions of patient and family experience fails to meet contemporary standards of comprehensive palliative care. While a focus on somatic issues has sometimes overshadowed attention to psychological, existential, and spiritual end-of-life challenges, the past decade has seen an all encompassing, multi-disciplinary approach to care for the dying take hold. Written by internationally known psychiatry and palliative care experts, the Handbook of Psychiatry in Palliative Medicine is an essential reference for all providers of palliative care, including psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health counselors, oncologists, hospice workers, and social workers.
