Download or read book Douleurs : physiologie, physiopathologie et pharmacologie written by D. Bouhassira and published by Arnette. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Meanings of Pain by : Simon van Rysewyk
Download or read book Meanings of Pain written by Simon van Rysewyk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although pain is widely recognized by clinicians and researchers as an experience, pain is always felt in a patient-specific way rather than experienced for what it objectively is, making perceived meaning important in the study of pain. The book contributors explain why meaning is important in the way that pain is felt and promote the integration of quantitative and qualitative methods to study meanings of pain. For the first time in a book, the study of the meanings of pain is given the attention it deserves. All pain research and medicine inevitably have to negotiate how pain is perceived, how meanings of pain can be described within the fabric of a person’s life and neurophysiology, what factors mediate them, how they interact and change over time, and how the relationship between patient, researcher, and clinician might be understood in terms of meaning. Though meanings of pain are not intensively studied in contemporary pain research or thoroughly described as part of clinical assessment, no pain researcher or clinician can avoid asking questions about how pain is perceived or the types of data and scientific methods relevant in discovering the answers.

Book Synopsis Emergency Triage by : Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG)
Download or read book Emergency Triage written by Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-09-08 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emergency Triage: Telephone Triage and Advice complements the highly successful Emergency Triage. The algorithms are rooted in the Manchester Triage System (MTS), which is used in hospitals around the world and which is acknowledged as an effective means of clinical prioritisation. This telephone iteration of a triage system which prioritises millions of patients each year provides a robust, safe, evidence-based system for managing the clinical risk in patients who are at a distance from health care providers. The basic principles that drive the MTS remain, but this book addresses the specific difficulties of assessment by telephone. The possible triage outcomes are "face-to-face now", "face-to-face soon" and "face-to-face later" together with a self-care option. Information and advice is suggested at every level. The advice ranges from life-saving interventions, which can be carried out until health care arrives, to self-care instructions. Emergency Triage: Telephone Triage and Advice provides all the necessary information that telephone triage staff must have to hand as well as including examples of questions to be asked. It will be a valuable resource for staff working in emergency departments, health centres and telephone triage organisations. Furthermore hospitals that are already using Emergency Triage will benefit from being linked with a telephone triage system that follows the same protocols. Updated to Version 1.7 in 2023.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Differential Manifolds by : Jacques Lafontaine
Download or read book An Introduction to Differential Manifolds written by Jacques Lafontaine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-29 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to differential manifolds. It gives solid preliminaries for more advanced topics: Riemannian manifolds, differential topology, Lie theory. It presupposes little background: the reader is only expected to master basic differential calculus, and a little point-set topology. The book covers the main topics of differential geometry: manifolds, tangent space, vector fields, differential forms, Lie groups, and a few more sophisticated topics such as de Rham cohomology, degree theory and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for surfaces. Its ambition is to give solid foundations. In particular, the introduction of “abstract” notions such as manifolds or differential forms is motivated via questions and examples from mathematics or theoretical physics. More than 150 exercises, some of them easy and classical, some others more sophisticated, will help the beginner as well as the more expert reader. Solutions are provided for most of them. The book should be of interest to various readers: undergraduate and graduate students for a first contact to differential manifolds, mathematicians from other fields and physicists who wish to acquire some feeling about this beautiful theory. The original French text Introduction aux variétés différentielles has been a best-seller in its category in France for many years. Jacques Lafontaine was successively assistant Professor at Paris Diderot University and Professor at the University of Montpellier, where he is presently emeritus. His main research interests are Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian geometry, including some aspects of mathematical relativity. Besides his personal research articles, he was involved in several textbooks and research monographs.
Book Synopsis The Great Cholesterol Con by : Dr Malcolm Kendrick
Download or read book The Great Cholesterol Con written by Dr Malcolm Kendrick and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2008-07-07 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statins are widely prescribed to lower blood cholesterol levels and claim to offer unparalleled protection against heart disease. Believed to be completely safe and capable of preventing a whole series of other conditions, they are the most profitable drug in the history of medicine. In this groundbreaking book, GP Malcolm Kendrick exposes the truth behind the hype. He will change the way we think about cholesterol forever. Rubbishing the diet-heart hypothesis, in which clinical trials 'prove' that high cholesterol causes heart disease and a high-fat diet leads to heart disease, Kendrick lambastes a powerful pharmaceutical industry and unquestioning medical profession, who, he claims, perpetuate the madcap concepts of 'good' and 'bad' cholesterol and cholesterol levels to convince millions of people to unnecessarily spend billions of pounds on statins. Clearly and comprehensively debunking assumptions on what constitute a healthy lifestyle and diet, "The Great Cholesterol Con" is the accessible, indispensable and absorbing case against statins and for a more common-sense approach to heart disease and general wellbeing. No more over-hyped miracle drugs; no more garlic, red wine, anti-oxidants, fruit or vegetables; even a vegetarian diet is rejected in this controversial yet authoritative critique of how we have been mislead over how food and drugs affect our coronary health. Here, for the first time, is the invaluable guide for anyone who though there was a miracle cure for heart disease, "The Great Cholesterol Con" is a fascinating breakthrough that will set dynamite under the whole area.

Book Synopsis How Statin Drugs Really Lower Cholesterol and Kill You One Cell at a Time by : James B. Yoseph
Download or read book How Statin Drugs Really Lower Cholesterol and Kill You One Cell at a Time written by James B. Yoseph and published by Hannah Yoseph. This book was released on 2012 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Yosephs have written the most stunning expose. In plain language they reveal the science, the corruption and the enormous conspiracy it took to bring statins to market. As fast paced as a Mickey Spillane novel they report the research, the fraud and the facts like a detective in hot pursuit of a Nazi war criminal. It is riveting. They have accomplished the impossible: they have made both complex science and medical history fascinating to read. What could not be done in an expose they accomplished with almost unbelievablable ease. It will change your paradigms about medicine forever."--p.[4] of cover.
