Book Synopsis THE RIDDLE OF THE EARTH Hardback by : COMYNS BEAUMONT
Download or read book THE RIDDLE OF THE EARTH Hardback written by COMYNS BEAUMONT and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-05-29 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comyns Beaumont takes his evidence not only from actual meteorological phenomena otherwise unexplained, but also from Plato, Aristotle, Homer, Josephus, Caesar and the Bible among others. He strips away the false divisions between academic disciplines, brings ancient astronomical knowledge back into play and mathematically completely overturns the long-accepted version of the history of our planet and the systems within systems through which it operates in the wider cosmos, describing clearly how the regard for the operation of the male and female creative principles has been criminally misrepresented as phallic worship. Watch the skies!
Book Synopsis Double Entendre by : Patrick C. Byrne
Download or read book Double Entendre written by Patrick C. Byrne and published by BearManor Media. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mae West, actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, comedian, and sex symbol. Rae Bourbon, actor, singer, playwright, comedian, and cross-dresser. Both entertainers' careers spanned seven decades, as they individually and together worked in Burlesque, Vaudeville, Broadway, silent movies, talkie movies, Old Time Radio, and television, equally stirring up controversy, similarly ribald and witty, and always outrageously risque. Mae's legendary vehicles included the shocking Broadway plays, Sex, The Drag, The Wicked Age, Pleasure Man, and Diamond Lil. When topsy turvey Hollywood converted from silent movies to sound, Paramount Pictures snapped her up for unforgettable series of celluloid sensations, such as the Academy Award Best Picture-nominated She Done Him Wrong (1933). Rae's renowned vehicles spanned the music halls of London to the Vaudeville stages of America, with stops along the way in silent movies, sound films, Carnegie Hall, and a still-popular series of wacky, wry recordings. Their parallel lives often crisscrossed, through side by side appearances on stage, and through the blurred lines of their often flamboyant yet always fascinating images. Self-absorbed and sometimes delusional, neither realized how shockingly different their final curtain would be. Discover their unforgettable, interwoven stories in Patrick C. Byrne's richly researched biography. ." . . Mae West, America's original 'queen of sex' . . . Rae Bourbon, equally enigmatic 'dame of drag' . . . discover the heartfelt and mindful souls beneath the glamorous facades of their stardom." -David W. Jackson, Archivist/Historian "Both persisted in presenting their larger than life personas, becoming the subject of intense scrutiny by public and private organizations for perceived morality violations on so-called 'vulgar and indecent' behavior. Both paid the price for flaunting their sexuality." -Honorable Judge Ann Mesle "Probably no other homosexual, and certainly no other performer, has had the effect on the American gay community that Bourbon did." -David Leitsch, Gay Journal

Book Synopsis Adventures of Monsieur de Mailly HARDBACK by : David Lindsay
Download or read book Adventures of Monsieur de Mailly HARDBACK written by David Lindsay and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-05-20 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lindsay's fourth published novel, 'Adventures of Monsieur de Mailly' was first published in 1926 in the UK and released in the US rather inappropriately as 'Blade for Sale' in the same year. 'Adventures of Monsieur de Mailly' is a humorous adventure set in the France of Louis XIV. Possibly the lightest and least fantastical of David Lindsay's novels, this romp through the realm of the Sun King nevertheless contains moments of high tragedy and tantalising glimpses of Lindsay's fascinating philosophy. Monsieur Gaston de Mailly is a soldier, an adventurer and, above all, a gentleman, trying to combat a disgraceful poverty in the year 1700, in a France where social norms are rapidly changing. An exciting adventure in its own right, this is a book no David Lindsay devotee will want to be without.
Book Synopsis Afro-Atlantic Histories by : Adriano Pedrosa
Download or read book Afro-Atlantic Histories written by Adriano Pedrosa and published by Delmonico Books. This book was released on 2021-10 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A colossal, panoramic, much-needed appraisal of the visual cultures of Afro-Atlantic territories across six centuries Afro-Atlantic Histories brings together a selection of more than 400 works and documents by more than 200 artists from the 16th to the 21st centuries that express and analyze the ebbs and flows between Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean and Europe. The book is motivated by the desire and need to draw parallels, frictions and dialogues around the visual cultures of Afro-Atlantic territories--their experiences, creations, worshiping and philosophy. The so-called Black Atlantic, to use the term coined by Paul Gilroy, is geography lacking precise borders, a fluid field where African experiences invade and occupy other nations, territories and cultures. The plural and polyphonic quality of "histórias" is also of note; unlike the English "histories," the word in Portuguese carries a double meaning that encompasses both fiction and nonfiction, personal, political, economic and cultural, as well as mythological narratives. The book features more than 400 works from Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean, as well as Europe, from the 16th to the 21st century. These are organized in eight thematic groupings: Maps and Margins; Emancipations; Everyday Lives; Rites and Rhythms; Routes and Trances; Portraits; Afro Atlantic Modernisms; Resistances and Activism. Artists include: Nina Chanel Abney, Emma Amos, Benny Andrews, Emanoel Araujo, Maria Auxiliadora, Romare Bearden, John Biggers, Paul Cézanne, Victoria Santa Cruz, Beauford Delaney, Aaron Douglas, Melvin Edwards, Ibrahim El-Salahi, Ben Enwonwu, Ellen Gallagher, Theodore Géricault, Barkley Hendricks, William Henry Jones, Loïs Mailou Jones, Titus Kaphar, Wifredo Lam, Norman Lewis, Ibrahim Mahama, Edna Manley, Archibald Motley, Abdias Nascimento, Gilberto de la Nuez, Toyin Ojih Odutola, Dalton Paula, Rosana Paulino, Howardena Pindell, Heitor dos Prazeres, Joshua Reynolds, Faith Ringgold, Gerard Sekoto, Alma Thomas, Hank Willis Thomas, Rubem Valentim, Kara Walker and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye.
