Book Synopsis Life Drawing by : Nancy Myers Leiserowitz
Download or read book Life Drawing written by Nancy Myers Leiserowitz and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2024-02-12 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book This memoir is composed of letters sent between a mother living on a farm in Nebraska and her daughter, away from home as she pursued degrees in Nursing, English and Art (sculpture). Separated by five hundred miles, they began a weekly exchange of letters — a dialogue they maintained until the mother died. The education of the artist occurred during tumultuous times (the 1960s), and was in distinct contrast with her mother’s life. The letters share an intense interest in history, Jungian psychology, philosophy, Eastern religions, and Zen Buddhism. They describe the development and training of a sculptor as well as the divergence of lives between generations as the mother and artist-daughter interpret the realities of a world in flux and accelerating around them. The parents are magnanimous in support of the daughter despite their own hardships and political differences with her. They remain steadfast in their love for each other, family and the land to which they are rooted. About the Author Nancy Myers Leiserowitz was born and raised in Nebraska. Holding both a bachelor’s degree in English and a master of fine arts degree in Sculpture, Leiserowitz has enjoyed a career as a registered nurse, artist and teacher. She has taught sculpture, drawing and Renaissance art history at Connecticut College for Women, Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. Leiserowitz is also a founding member of Hospice of Lansing and volunteers with Women’s Action for Nuclear Disarmament and the Big Brother/Big Sister program.

Book Synopsis The Magdalene Awakening by : L. Shannon Andersen
Download or read book The Magdalene Awakening written by L. Shannon Andersen and published by Pelican Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a deep and profound quest for origins, meaning, and healing, written at a time when the human condition appears more fractured from within than at any other time in history. In writing The Magdalene Awakening, Shannon Anderson has successfully journeyed to that sacred space and has "lifted the veil" for her readers revealing the atrium of immortality and enticing them to come and join her on her high mission. The smooth narrative style of the book weaves together a magical journey through the author's quest for the true Magdalene energy, the origins of the Cathars, the Gematria that holds the sacred key, and in the end, a call for transformation. This story is a page turner written by someone who knows, and who allows her readers the rare opportunity to discover these mysteries for themselves, but with the benefit of her company and wisdom to help them on their path. Maria Magdalena Colavito, Ph.D., author of The Pythagorean Intertext in Ovid's Metamorphoses & The New Theogony: Mythology for the Real World.

Book excerpt: Finalist for the 2022 Lammy Award for Bisexual & the 2022 Heartland Booksellers Award A Book Riot Best Book of the Year “Audaciously human and raw. The Way She Feels is a rainbow during the rain.” —Mara Altman A witty and one-of-a-kind debut graphic memoir detailing and drawing the life of a girl with borderline personality disorder finding her way—and herself—one day at a time. What does it feel like to fall in love too hard and too fast, to hate yourself in equal and opposite measure? To live in such fear of rejection that you drive friends and lovers away? Welcome to my world. I’m Courtney, and I have borderline personality disorder (BPD), along with over four million other people in the United States. Though I’ve shown every classic symptom of the disorder since childhood, I wasn’t properly diagnosed until nearly a decade later, because the prevailing theory is that most people simply “grow out of it.” Not me. In my illustrated memoir, The Way She Feels: My Life on the Borderline in Pictures and Pieces, I share what it’s been like to live and love with this disorder. Not just the hospitalizations, treatments, and residential therapy, but the moments I found comfort in cereal, the color pink, or mini corndogs; the days I couldn’t style my hair because I thought the blow-dryer was going to hurt me; the peace I found when someone I love held me. This is a book about vulnerability, honesty, acceptance, and how to speak openly—not only with doctors, co-patients, friends, family, or partners, but also with ourselves.

Book Synopsis Experiments with Body Agent Architecture by : Alessandro Ayuso
Download or read book Experiments with Body Agent Architecture written by Alessandro Ayuso and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2022-03-31 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments with Body Agent Architecture puts forward the notion of body agents: non-ideal, animate and highly specific figures integrated with design to enact particular notions of embodied subjectivity in architecture. Body agents present opportunities for architects to increase imaginative and empathic qualities in their designs, particularly amidst a posthuman condition. Beginning with narrative writing from the viewpoint of a body agent, an estranged ‘quattrocento spiritello’ who finds himself uncomfortably inhabiting a digital milieu (or, as the spiritello calls it, ‘Il Regno Digitale’), the book combines speculative historical fiction and original design experiments. It focuses on the process of creating the multi-media design experiments, moving from the design of the body itself as an original prosthetic to architectural proposals emanating from the body. A fragmented history of the figure in architecture is charted and woven into the designs, with chapters examining Michelangelo’s enigmatic figures in his drawings for the New Sacristy in the early sixteenth century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s physically ephemeral ‘putti’ adorning chapels and churches in the seventeenth century, and Austrian artist-architect Walter Pichler’s personal and prescient figures of the twentieth century.
