I wanted to donate to this movement because they have established a community and a safe haven of advocates and survivors that speak out against sexual violence. I don't want to live in a world, nor do I want my loved ones and peers to live in a world, where they feel unsafe and unprotected. I personally don't have any experience with sexual violence, but I shouldn't have to experience it in order to voice my opinion on it. We live in a society where sex is just part of the culture, it's part of the system. We can't distance ourselves from this reality, because if we do then we will fail to acknowledge that we can fall into the role of victim or perpetrator ourselves. I believe that people aren't inherently good or bad, we aren't born self conscious and weary of what people think. We start out with a fresh slate and we learn to function by looking at the environment around us- which is why I think the root of the problem in sexual violence is that we don't know how to love and respect ourselves first. How can we genuinely love others if we don't love ourselves? If we don't value ourselves, how can we value other people?The purpose of this book is to show that individuals are loved for what they represent, for what they believe in, and for their growth as an individual. I want to show that we are not alone if we do not have a boyfriend or girlfriend; there are a plethora_of_people who love and care about you unconditionally (see what I did there LOL).
