Download or read book Dôme - tome 2 written by Stephen King and published by Albin Michel. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The dome of thought by : William Hughes
Download or read book The dome of thought written by William Hughes and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-29 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dome of thought is the first study of phrenology based primarily on the popular – rather than medical – appreciation of this important and controversial pseudoscience. With detailed reference to the reports printed in popular newspapers from the early years of the nineteenth century to the fin de siècle, the book provides an unequalled insight into the Victorian public’s understanding of the techniques, assumptions and implications of defining a person’s character by way of the bumps on their skull. Highly relevant to the study of the many authors – Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens, and George Eliot, among them – whose fiction was informed by the imagery of phrenology, The dome of thought will prove an essential resource for anybody with an interest in the popular and literary culture of the nineteenth century, including literary scholars, medical historians and the general reader.

Book Synopsis History of Indian and Eastern Architecture by : James Fergusson
Download or read book History of Indian and Eastern Architecture written by James Fergusson and published by . This book was released on 1910 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrations: 2 Maps, Numerous B/w Illustrations Description: The present reprint of Fergusson's History of Indian and Eastern Architecture is being brought out to meet the growing demand from scholars for whom this book is still the basic work of reference on Indian Architecture. In the preface to the second edition (1910) of this work James Burgess wrote, Though descriptions of Indian monuments may be written in various ways, no one could pretend to take up the systematic study of Indian Architecture without the aid of this work, and no history of Architecture can be scientifically written without appropriating the principles Mr. Fergusson showed how to apply. This work, in a way, fulfils the desire of Fergusson. In the Preface to the first edition of the book (1876) the author expressed his desire to open an hitherto unknown field of Indian Architecture and to give an impulse to its study, and assist in establishing Indian Architecture on a stable basis, so that it may take its true position among the other great styles which have ennobled the arts of mankind. It is needless to go into the merits of the present work. Fergusson covered in his study of Indian Architecture the vast range of time and space. Tracing the Indian Architecture from its remote antiquity, Fergusson covered the entire panorama of India with its diverse monuments including even the contemporary modes. In order to provide the reader with an all-encompassing view, he included in the present work, the Architecture of the neighbouring countries which were vastly influenced by the present-tradition of India. The books thus became, and still is, an authentic compendium on Architecture. The excellent woodcuts and photographs are still utilized for primary reference work.
Download or read book Marmion written by Walter Scott, Sir and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: And now the midnight draught of sleep, Where wine and spices richly steep, In massive bowl of silver deep, The page presents on knee.Lord Marmion drank a fair good rest, The captain pledged his noble guest, The cup went through among the rest, Who drained it merrily...-from MarmionFantastically successful when it was first published in 1808 and a bestseller throughout the 19th-century, this is Scott's epic poem of the 1513 Battle of Flodden Field, an enormous military disaster for Scotland in which the English killed King James IV and most of his nobles, and "all was lost," Scott said of the debacle, "but our honour." With a hero, Lord Marmion, who is by turns both upright and villainous, and its sweeping air of romantic and political intrigue, this rich tapestry of verse remains favorite of Scott devotees today.Scottish novelist and poet SIR WALTER SCOTT (1771-1832), a literary hero of his native land, turned to writing only when his law practice and printing business foundered. Among his most beloved works are The Lady of the Lake (1810), Rob Roy (1818), and Ivanhoe (1820).

Book Synopsis Coffey on the Mile by : Stephen King
Download or read book Coffey on the Mile written by Stephen King and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Green Mile, Stephen King’s #1 New York Times bestselling novel, was first published twenty years ago in six original paperback installments. Inspiration for the Oscar-nominated film starring Tom Hanks about an innocent man on death row, The Green Mile is now available for the first time in e-serial form. Coffey on the Mile is Volume Six. Cold Mountain Penitentiary has seen its share of men drawing their last breaths, with many of them claiming to be innocent until the very end. In this final chapter of the six-part novel, we learn both John Coffey's fate and the terrible truth Paul Edgecombe discovers about him. The story also brings us farther into the present as Paul recounts the events of his life after Cold Mountain—and the lives of all he encountered there. The gentle giant with healing hands. The little mouse that softened a murderer’s heart. The corrupt man capable of more evil than any of those he guarded. And all the wonderful and horrible men and moments in that place of ultimate retribution, the well-worn stretch of linoleum they called the Green Mile.
