Book excerpt: Set in the American Southwest in the 1870's, Forty Dollars is a western with an eclectic blend of many different characters consisting of southern expatriates, carpetbaggers turned ranchers, Mexican bandits, working cowboys, and a biblical quoting bounty hunter. The central figure is Jake Romero, a white man raised by Lipan Apaches and trained to be a scout with uncanny abilities, some of which are mystical or shamanistic in nature. Jake is hired by a wealthy rancher to track for a vigilante group whose mission is to rid the territory of cattle rustlers and horse thieves. After an eventful three weeks in which he witnesses a lynching, is involved in a shootout with a nest of rustlers, and has a disastrous encounter with Mexican bandits and an expatriated Southern General, Jake returns to the ranch to collect his pay. The rancher refuses to pay him, so Jake steals the man's prize stallion, stating that the rancher will get the horse back when Jake gets his forty dollars. This sets the stage for a confrontation between Jake and everyone that wants a piece of him, for one reason or another.

Book excerpt: On their way to fight in the Mexican-American War, a group of American soldiers are swept away to a strange and deadly alternate Earth in this thrilling new adventure set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Destroyermen series. The United States, 1847. A disparate group of young American soldiers are bound to join General Winfield Scott's campaign against Santa Anna at Veracruz during the Mexican-American War. They never arrive. Or rather . . . they arrive somewhere else. The untried, idealistic soldiers are mostly replacements, really; a handful of infantry, artillery, dragoons, and a few mounted riflemen with no unified command. And they've been shipwrecked on a terrible, different Earth full of monsters and unimaginable enemies. Major Lewis Cayce, late of the 3rd US "Flying" Artillery, must unite these men to face their fears and myriad threats, armed with little more than flintlock muskets, a few pieces of artillery, and a worldview that spiritually and culturally rebels against virtually everything they encounter. It will take extraordinary leadership and a cadre of equally extraordinary men and women to mold frightened troops into an effective force, make friends with other peoples the evil Holy Dominion would eradicate, and reshape their "manifest destiny" into a cause they can all believe in and fight for. For only together will they have any hope of survival.

Book excerpt: In order to expose a sinister, far-reaching criminal conspiracy, detective Jake Cardigan , the twenty-second century’s most able private detective, must prove that an open-and-shut murder case is anything but Once again the inimitable William Shatner, Star Trek’s original Captain Kirk and a true star of science fiction adventure, brings the future vibrantly alive in the eighth nonstop, action-packed futuristic caper featuring private investigator Jake Cardigan, sworn enemy of the all-powerful TekLords. Walt Bascom, head of the Cosmos Detective Agency, is in serious trouble. Video surveillance in the home of superrich businessman Dwight Grossman clearly shows Bascom murdering the entrepreneur in cold blood. Bascom swears he didn’t do it, and he’s relying on his agency’s best investigator, Jake Cardigan, to prove it somehow. Jake and his partner, Sid Gomez, have their work cut out for them. The only “evidence” on their side is the testimony of the dead man’s sister, Susan, who claims she’s had telepathic visions of her brother’s true death. But Susan is an admitted devotee of the powerful, reality-altering electronic drug Tek. Whoever wanted her brother dead—and Bascom accused—went to great lengths to set up the scheme, and those responsible are not going to sit idly by while a pair of snooping private eyes and a burned-out Tek fiend start digging for answers. To keep the killers’ dark and very dirty secrets hidden, one corpse may not be enough. This ebook features an illustrated biography of William Shatner including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

He expects to encounter bandits, hostile Comanche, bad weather and stampedes, and he’s not disappointed. He hadn’t been expecting the treacherous Comancheros, renegade Apache, and night riding gangs of unreconstructed Rebels seething with resentment, and all of them fighting over a thousand stolen Army rifles. When he’s forced to kill two men who are stealing his prized horse, Pete incurs the wrath of an ex-communicated religious zealot and his sect of trigger-happy disciples. The entire Texas Panhandle is about to erupt in a shooting war that could spread across the West.
