Book Synopsis Sustainable Energy Investment by : Joseph Nyangon
Download or read book Sustainable Energy Investment written by Joseph Nyangon and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the technical, market, and policy innovations for unlocking sustainable investment in the energy sector. While finalizing this book, the COVID-19 pandemic is cutting a devastating swath through the global economy, causing the biggest fall in energy sector investment, exacerbating the global trade finance gap, worsening signs of growing income inequality, and devastating the health and livelihoods of millions. What is the parallel between the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate change crisis? The impacts of the global pandemic are expected to last for a few years, whereas those associated with the climate crisis will play out over several decades with potentially irreversible consequences. However, both show that the cost of inaction or delay in addressing the risks can lead to devastating outcomes or a greater probability of irreversible, catastrophic damages. In the context of sustainable energy investment and the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy, what ways can financial markets and institutions support net-zero-emission activities and the shift to a sustainable economy, including investment in energy efficiency, low-carbon and renewable energy technologies? This book provides students, policymakers, and energy investment professionals with the knowledge and theoretical tools necessary to address related questions in sustainable energy investment, risk management, and energy innovation agendas.

This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DOE's Loan Programs Office administers the Loan Guarantee Program (LGP) for certain renewable or innovative energy projects and the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan program for projects to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles and components. As of March 2014, the programs had made more than $30 billion in loans and guarantees: approximately $21.9 billion for 33 loan guarantees under the LGP and $8.4 billion for 5 loans under the ATVM loan program. Both programs can expose the government and taxpayers to substantial financial risks should borrowers default. GAO assessed the extent to which DOE has developed and adhered to loan monitoring policies for its loan programs for 2009 to 2013. GAO analyzed relevant regulations and guidance; prior audits; DOE policies; and DOE data, documents, and monitoring reports for a nonprobability sample of 10 loans and guarantees. Findings from the sample are not generalizable, but the sample covered a range of technologies and loan statuses. GAO also interviewed DOE officials.

Book Synopsis Creating Climate Wealth by : Jigar Shah
Download or read book Creating Climate Wealth written by Jigar Shah and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Creating Climate Wealth is about how climate change, the biggest challenge of our time, can be turned into a $10 trillion dollar wealth-creating opportunity. Author Jigar Shah, internationally recognized for revolutionizing the now multi-billion-dollar solar energy industry, outlines how entrepreneurs and investors can unlock the massive potential that climate change represents. Shah argues that, while new technical innovation is valuable, deployment of existing technologies are the key to reaching our near-term climate targets. Rather than waiting for yet to be developed technology, business model innovation is the key to attract mainstream capital and unlock transformational change... Unlocking our next economy will be driven by thousands of companies deploying existing clean and resource-efficient technologies in electricity-supply (like solar), transportation, building materials, industry, forestry, waste, and agriculture."--

Book Synopsis Power after Carbon by : Peter Fox-Penner
Download or read book Power after Carbon written by Peter Fox-Penner and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the electric power industry faces the challenges of climate change, technological disruption, new market imperatives, and changing policies, a renowned energy expert offers a roadmap to the future of this essential sector. As the damaging and costly impacts of climate change increase, the rapid development of sustainable energy has taken on great urgency. The electricity industry has responded with necessary but wrenching shifts toward renewables, even as it faces unprecedented challenges and disruption brought on by new technologies, new competitors, and policy changes. The result is a collision course between a grid that must provide abundant, secure, flexible, and affordable power, and an industry facing enormous demands for power and rapid, systemic change. The fashionable solution is to think small: smart buildings, small-scale renewables, and locally distributed green energy. But Peter Fox-Penner makes clear that these will not be enough to meet our increasing needs for electricity. He points instead to the indispensability of large power systems, battery storage, and scalable carbon-free power technologies, along with the grids and markets that will integrate them. The electric power industry and its regulators will have to provide all of these, even as they grapple with changing business models for local electric utilities, political instability, and technological change. Power after Carbon makes sense of all the moving parts, providing actionable recommendations for anyone involved with or relying on the electric power system.
Book Synopsis Department of Energy by : Frank Russo
Download or read book Department of Energy written by Frank Russo and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 established DoE¿s loan guarantee program (LGP) for innovative energy projects that should decrease air pollutants or greenhouse gases and that have a reasonable prospect of repayment. For FY 2008 and 2009, Congress authorized the use of borrower fees to pay the costs of loan guarantees; DoE will limit loan guarantees to $38.5 billion. Congress mandated this review of DoE¿s progress in assessing progress in: (1) issuing final regulations; and (2) taking actions to help ensure that the program is managed effectively and to maintain accountability. Also assessed how inherent risks due to the nature of the LGP may affect DoE¿s ability to achieve intended program outcomes. Includes recommendations. Illus.

Book Synopsis Department of Energy by : Frank Rusco
Download or read book Department of Energy written by Frank Rusco and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congress has mandated higher vehicle fuel economy by model year 2020 and established the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan program in the Dept. of Energy (DoE). ATVM is to provide up to $25 billion in loans for more fuel-efficient vehicles and components. Congress also provided $7.5 billion to pay the required credit subsidy costs -- the government's net long-term cost of the loans. This report reviewed the ATVM program and: (1) identified the steps DoE has taken to implement the program; (2) examined the program's progress in awarding loans; (3) assessed how the program is overseeing the loans; and (4) evaluated the extent to which DoE can assess progress toward meeting its goals.
