Book Synopsis The 60s Communes by : Timothy Miller
Download or read book The 60s Communes written by Timothy Miller and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The greatest wave of communal living in American history crested in the tumultuous 1960s era including the early 1970s. To the fascination and amusement of more decorous citizens, hundreds of thousands of mostly young dreamers set out to build a new culture apart from the established society. Widely believed by the larger public to be sinks of drug-ridden sexual immorality, the communes both intrigued and repelled the American people. The intentional communities of the 1960s era were far more diverse than the stereotype of the hippie commune would suggest. A great many of them were religious in basis, stressing spiritual seeking and disciplined lifestyles. Others were founded on secular visions of a better society. Hundreds of them became so stable that they survive today. This book surveys the broad sweep of this great social yearning from the first portents of a new type of communitarianism in the early 1960s through the waning of the movement in the mid-1970s. Based on more than five hundred interviews conducted for the 60s Communes Project, among other sources, it preserves a colorful and vigorous episode in American history. The book includes an extensive directory of active and non-active communes, complete with dates of origin and dissolution.

Book excerpt: This text offers comprehensive coverage of cyberlaw and related topics using an accessible writing style, up-to-date coverage, and an entrepreneurial-process orientation and will fulfill the needs of future professional business managers for whom start-ups, the Internet, and innovation have continuing and increasing importance. Widely expected to become a foundational text for experiential business law courses, Cyberlaw will help prepare students for the fundamental legal challenges of startups as well as of small- and medium-sized enterprises. By following the progression of a business from idea to formation and financing to operations (including asset development and acquisition) to hiring and, finally, to the exit phase, future managers will gain insights into the kinds of decisions managers must make at every step. Students will become engaged in the topic through case analyses, examples, ethical and international perspectives, carefully constructed pedagogy, and other features, such as practice pointers, Twitter thread stories, and more. Features: The text organization observes the chronological pattern followed by a startup/entrepreneur, providing a cohesive guide to the build-out of a business. Traditional cyberlaw topics are given comprehensive coverage but always in a business context. Cutting-edge and seminal cyberlaw cases are carefully selected and edited for readability and clarity. Important topic content includes chapters on IP; social media; data privacy; and government regulation. Other up-to-date coverage includes promoting inventiveness and innovation; data security; new venture planning, fiduciary duties, and crowdfunding ; and malware, data breaches, and criminal procedure. Each chapter contains a feature focused on cyberlaw issues and dilemmas, using Twitter as a case study. Wherever appropriate and relevant, international perspectives and ethical organizational behavior are integrated into the discussion. Pedagogical features, placed strategically throughout the text, include concept summaries, case questions, exhibits and tables, hypothetical ventures to illustrate points, and dynamic end-of-chapter features such as chapter summaries, manager s checklists, key terms, short case problems or questions, and web resources. Learning objectives align with AACSB standards and Bloom s Taxonomy for assessment purposes. Cutting-edge cyberlaw cases discussed include People v. Marquan M (cyber-bullying, 2014) and Riley v. California (cell phone searches, 2014).
Book Synopsis Seismic Geomorphology by : R. J. Davies
Download or read book Seismic Geomorphology written by R. J. Davies and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2007 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are poised to embark on a new era of discovery in the study of geomorphology. The discipline has a long and illustrious history, but in recent years an entirely new way of studying landscapes and seascapes has been developed. It involves the use of 3D seismic data. Just as CAT scans allow medical staff to view our anatomy in 3D, seismic data now allows Earth scientists to do what the early geomorphologists could only dream of - view tens and hundreds of square kilometres of the Earth's subsurface in 3D and therefore see for the first time how landscapes have evolved through time. This volume demonstrates how Earth scientists are starting to use this relatively new tool to study the dynamic evolution of a range of sedimentary environments.
Book Synopsis Lucifer's Lodge by : William H. Kennedy
Download or read book Lucifer's Lodge written by William H. Kennedy and published by Reviviscimus. This book was released on 2004 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people are not only appalled but puzzled by the Catholic pedoplilia scandal. What could explain the Church's ongoing tendency to protect molesters, even after they have brought that institution to the brink of ruin? William H. Kennedy may have the answer: that behind some of the molestations lies a cabal of Satanists operating within the Catholic Church, sometimes with the protection of high Church officials. Fr. Malachi Martin (Windswept House; Hostage to the Devil), Fr. Charles Fiore (a traditional Catholic priest), and Fr. Alfred Kunz to investigate charges of pedophilia within the Catholic Church, years before the scandal broke. These men believed they had solid evidence that some of the pedophilia was the work of organized Satanists. Fr. Kunz who hosted the Catholic Family Hour radio program in Wisconsin through which he attempted to expose pedophile priests, was murdered in March of 1998, just before Fr. Fiore was to take over the program, effectively silencing both of them. In view of the recent publication of major reports on the Catholic pedophile scandal, which have left many victims unsatisfied, and increasing news coverage of priestly sexual abuse with ritualistic elements, no book could be more timely than Lucifer's Lodge.

The book shares the author’s well-developed theories and methods of ecological diagnosis, treatment, and education so professionals and parents, our most influential teachers, can rise to the challenge of saving our planet. Readers will find that the book helps them accomplish this goal as it: explores an expanded, ecologically grounded theory of personality development, the missing dimension in understanding human identity formation outlines a model for doing ecologically oriented psychotherapy, counseling, medical healing, teaching, and parenting describes life-saving perspectives for making one’s lifestyle more earth-caring demonstrates the importance of hope, humor, and love suggests how these earthy approaches may be utilized in a variety of social contexts and cultures A systematic theory and practice guidebook, Ecotherapy: Healing Ourselves, Healing the Earth fills a wide gap in both the counseling and therapy literature and the ecology literature. It offers an innovative model for fulfilling the “ecological circle” between humans and nature with three action dimensions. These are self-care by being intentionally nurtured by nature; spiritual enrichment by enjoying the transcendent Spirit in nature; and responding by nurturing nature more responsibly and lovingly. The theories and practical applications presented in the book come together to explore long-overlooked issues at the boundary between human health and the health of the natural environment. Psychotherapists, health professionals, and teachers; pastoral counselors and other clergy who counsel and teach; laypersons who are parents and grandparents; and individuals and groups interested in environmental issues will find Ecotherapy: Healing Ourselves, Healing the Earth essential for approaching the long-neglected earthy roots of the total human mind-body-spirit organism.
