Book Synopsis The Fairest One of All by : J.B. Kaufman
Download or read book The Fairest One of All written by J.B. Kaufman and published by Weldon Owen. This book was released on 2012-10-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2012 Disney celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Snow White movie, a beloved classic and an important milestone in film history. This book, created with the Walt Disney Family Foundation, run by Walt’s daughter, is an exploration of the making of the film that includes never-before-published facts and art. The Fairest One of All won the award for Best Animation Book at the 2012 A113Animation Awards. Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was first shown to a theatrical audience in December 1937 and brought overwhelming, joyous applause from a house full of hardened film-industry professionals. In subsequent months it would open around the world, happily acclaimed by audiences and critics everywhere as one of the best films of the year, if not the decade. From today’s perspective, its stature is even greater—named as one of the best movies of all time by the American Film Institute, and still beloved by children and adults around the world, Snow White can be seen as the flowering of an all-too-brief Golden Age of animation as well as a fascinating document of its time. Such a level of artistic achievement doesn’t happen by accident. Walt Disney and a staff of exceptionally talented artists labored over Snow White for four years, endlessly working and reworking their scenes to achieve an ever higher standard. The result, as we know, was magnificent and game-changing for the Disney Studios and, indeed, for the art of animation itself. This book is the first to reconstruct that process in exacting detail, with the loving attention it deserves from an internationally noted film scholar. Author J.B. Kaufman spent years researching the film’s history, interviewing participants, and studying the marvelous archival art that appears in these pages. The result is a work that can be appreciated equally as a piece of film history and as a collectable art book, a joy for anyone who loves film, animation, and the magical world that Walt Disney created.

Book Synopsis Chinese Literature by : William McNaughton
Download or read book Chinese Literature written by William McNaughton and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-13 with total page 923 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost three thousand years of Chinese literature have been gathered together in Chinese Literature: An Anthology from the Earliest Times to the Present Day. The earliest preserved folk songs of the peasantry; the major works of the "Golden Age" of Chinese philosophy; the "prose-songs" and the later skillful poems of the T'ang dynasty ; the short stories and plays; the novels; and the poems and stories of men who have made modern China - all these are represented in this anthology, in complete works or in excerpts. Editor William McNaughton presents Chinese literature as an organic development, so that the student as well as the general reader can see how genre evolved into genre and form developed into form. He has based this presentationon work by Chinese critics and scholars that, until recently, has not been available outside China. In addition to classical writings, the poems and stories by twentieth-century writers, most of which have been newly translated into English, give new insights into modern Chinese society and individuals, and make this the most complete one-volume anthology ever published.

Book Synopsis Tanganyika Under German Rule 1905-1912 by : John Iliffe
Download or read book Tanganyika Under German Rule 1905-1912 written by John Iliffe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of Tanganyika from the Maji Maji rebellion of 1905 (the greatest African rebellion against early European rule) to the last years of German administration. It examines a colonial situation in depth, ranging from the processes of change in African societies to the decisions of policy-makers in Berlin. In the aftermath of rebellion an imaginative Governor, Freiherr von rechenberg, initiated a programme of African cash-crop agriculture. This programme was reversed by a settler community which successfully manipulated the German political system. Meanwhile, after their defeat in armed rebellion, Africans sought power through educational and economic advancement. Tanganyika in 1912 was poised for that struggle for control between European settler and educated African which has been a fundamental theme of the modern history of East and Central Africa. Dr Illiffe's book is one of the few available studies of German colonial administration. He has drawn on a wide range of sources, both in East Africa and Germany. Written in the light of current reappraisal of African history, the book gives valuable insight into African initiatives during the early years of European rule.

Book Synopsis The Acquisition of Egyptian Arabic as a Native Language by : Margaret K. Omar

This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In 1968 Margaret K. Omar (Nydell) spent four months in a small Egyptian village called Sheikh Mubarak. Located in Middle Egypt near Al-Minya, residents of Sheik Mubarak speak in a dialect closer to Sa'eedi, not the dialect spoken in Cairo. Omar spent time there conducting interviews, examinations, and taping sessions with children and families to study primary language acquisition in non-Western languages. Based on her fieldwork, Omar describes the physical and social environment in which the native language was learned, the development of early communication and speech, and when and how children learn the phonology, vocabulary, morphology, and syntactical patterns of Egyptian Arabic. Omar makes comparisons with aspects of language acquisition of other languages, primarily English, and explores implications for the theory of language acquisition. Originally published in 1973, this book is the most thorough and complete analysis of the stages in which children learn Arabic as a first language. The Arabic in this book is presented in transcription, making the information accessible to all linguists interested in language acquisition."--Publisher's description.
