Download or read book Documentation of Iceberg Groundings written by Mona Salah Shahwan El-Tahan and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study provides a comprehensive documentation of iceberg groundings off Canada's east coast. Sophisticated criteria to identify and verify grounding events have been developed. A data base containing iceberg tracking data and related information has been compiled. The data base includes data on 2,728 icebergs tracked at well-site locations by drill-rig radars, 868 icebergs tracked by shore-based radars off Newfoundland and Labrador and in Baffin Bay, 40 icebergs tracked by satellite in Baffin Bay and the Labrador Sea for periods up to 309 days, and about 65,000 iceberg sightings reported by the International Ice Patrol (United States Coast Guard).

Book Synopsis Iceberg Utilization by : A. A. Husseiny
Download or read book Iceberg Utilization written by A. A. Husseiny and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iceberg Utilization covers the proceedings of the First International Conference and Workshops on Iceberg Utilization for Fresh Water Production, Weather Modification and Other Applications, held at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA on October 2-6, 1977. The book focuses on the efforts to consider the feasibility of using icebergs as alternative water and energy resources relative to the growing concern on global water and energy shortage. The compilation first offers information on the patterns of cooperation in international science and technology and evaluation of subsidiary effects and concomitant issues and challenges in iceberg utilization. The text also looks at the consideration of icebergs as potential water resource, including arctic drifting stations, remote sensing, and transport of icebergs. The book discusses elements of iceberg technology and remote sensing of thickness of icebergs, as well as sources and properties of tabular icebergs and towing, handling, processing, and selection of icebergs. The text also considers the international law problems in the acquisition and transportation of Antarctic icebergs; ecological considerations of iceberg transport from Antarctic waters; and energy and freshwater production from icebergs. The selection is a dependable reference for readers wanting to explore the potential of icebergs as energy and water resource.
Book Synopsis Design of an Iceberg Scour Repetitive Mapping Network for the Canadian East Coast by : Environmental Studies Revolving Funds (Canada)
Download or read book Design of an Iceberg Scour Repetitive Mapping Network for the Canadian East Coast written by Environmental Studies Revolving Funds (Canada) and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides recommendations for the establishment of a network for the purpose of monitoring the recurrence rates of iceberg/seabed interactions on the eastern Canadian continental shelf. The network is based on a detailed analysis of predicted iceberg grounding densities, generated by a computer model, combined with available information on existing iceberg scours, observed and interpreted groundings and scours, seabed geological conditions, and existing geophysical data. The network recommended covers a variety of water depths and surficial geological conditions over a broad geographic range, ensuring that the results will be applicable to many other areas on the shelf. The size and orientation of each control area or corridor, the geophysical instruments to be used, the survey techniques, and the recommended intervals between surveys are specified and are designed to ensure optimum probability of successful, complete, and reproducible data collection.
