Download or read book OSR Solo written by Peter Rudin-Burgess and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: OSR Solo rules These rules are intended to allow you to play an OSR, in this case meaning 0D&D, B/X style games, without a Dungeon Master. game you will get using these rules will be a sandbox-style adventure, you will not need to do any Dungeon Master [DM] style preparation although having a few stock NPCs or appropriate levels would be helpful. No DM? The normal cycle of play is that the DM describes the scene and asks what do you do? The players describe their actions. The DM describes the effects of those actions and the cycle repeats. In solo play there is just the single character and no DM. You start by imagining your character in the game setting and play them through all the social interactions, all the NPCs and events that would normally come up. At some point you will reach a point where you would normally ask your DM for more information. Are there any guards? Are there any ways out? What can you hear? At this point the solo rules come into play. You pitch your question in a Yes/No format. The solo rules will then return an answer to your question much like a Magic 8 Ball toy. It is then down to you and your improv. skills to decide what does this answer mean right now? Often the first thing that comes into your head is the answer to go with. If you just got yes and no answers things would get boring quite quickly. These rules are designed to throw up twists and turns into your character's story. is a perfect way to learn a new game, test your first adventures and going beyond just making characters when you are first getting to know the rules

Download or read book Only Blue Will Do written by Mark Rippon and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kate and Hugh are part of a university scientific expedition in the snowy wastes of Norway, investigating the environmental impact of climate change. Whilst on a routine sample collecting exercise on a bleak snow field, Hugh discovers two bodies buried in the ice. An excavation of the site is prioritised but, with night falling quickly and temperatures plunging, Hugh is left to keep watch alone, until he is joined later by Kate. A fluid movement out of full sight caught Hugh’s eye. It wasn’t the natural flurry of snow in the wind; it was a purposeful movement. Suddenly, a stark shapeless figure was transiently present and then, just as suddenly, gone, its outline blending into the grey night and scurrying snow blasts. During the night, the site is visited by a wolf and a man dressed in ancient Nordic clothing who steal the bodies and disappear off into a blizzard. Kate and Hugh follow the strange pair but succumb to the cold. Awaking from unconsciousness, they meet the man they have been chasing – ‘the Guardian’ and his guide Janus, a wolf and her cub Lado. Janus explains that both he and the Guardian have been battling to prevent chaos overturning the unity of the ‘paraverse’, which is being threatened by Prince Adren. In this paraverse, each universe, planet, ecosystem and creature, no matter how distant, is connected, and Hugh and Kate are part of the key to preventing the Prince turning order to chaos. To do this they have to face Prince Adren in different time periods in different guises, with varied outcomes, until they can finally overcome him... Only Blue Will Do is a gripping time-slip fantasy that sees Kate and Hugh battle for humanity across different eras.
