Book Synopsis Divine Agency and Divine Action, Volume II by : William J. Abraham
Download or read book Divine Agency and Divine Action, Volume II written by William J. Abraham and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine Agency and Divine Action, Volume II builds on Volume I, which established that no generic concept of action will suffice for understanding the character of divine actions explicit in the Christian faith. Volume II argues that in order to understand divine action, one must begin with the array of specific actions predicated of God in the Christian tradition. William J. Abraham argues that one must practice theology in order to analyze properly the concept of divine action. Abraham offers a careful review and evaluation of the particularities of divine action as they appear in the work of biblical, patristic, medieval, and Reformation-era theologians. Particular attention is given to the divine inspiration of scripture, creation, incarnation, transubstantiation in the Eucharist, predestination, and divine concurrence. The work does not simply repeat the doctrinal formulations found in the Christian tradition, but examines them in order to find fresh ways of thinking about these issues for our own time, especially with respect to the contemporary debates about divine agency and divine action.

Book excerpt: Honor Chloe’s never been one for attention. Give her a good book and a library and she’s in heaven. Except Chloe’s not in heaven. She’s literally in Hell, engaged to one of the Princes of the Underworld and not at all happy that she’s stuck there. Except this Prince of the Underworld likes books and solitude. Elijah is nothing like his older brothers. He’s quiet and unassuming. And he’s slowly been falling in love with Chloe. Except, Elijah has secrets. Secrets that threaten not only Chloe and his peace and harmony, but also their very lives. What were you thinking Elijah? Well, Chloe’s no slouch when it comes to secrets. She’s got a couple of her own. How in the world did these two unassuming, quiet creatures not only end up together, but also end up holding too much knowledge for their own good? You know Nico and Riven have never been good at playing with others. Now we get to find out how bad they really are. Cruelty When you’re the daughter of a god, you’re not always in charge of your own fate. That’s what Amalia and her five sisters discover when their father, a minor god, has bartered their future to the god of the Underworld. Their foolish father lost his kingdom to a trickster goddess, and much like any buffoon, he has thrown good money after bad and decided to trade his daughters for his kingdom. Indeed, the girls’ hands have been given in marriage to the princes of hell. Amalia’s pledged to Declan, the Prince of Savagery. Lucky her. Not. This gorgeous prince of hell has no manners and seemingly not a stitch of kindness. With Rose banished and Riven unconscious, Amalia finds herself thrown into palace intrigue. She latches onto Chloe and Elijah’s secret and becomes an accomplice. Until the God of the Underworld finds out.
Book Synopsis Divine Indwelling: Key to the Wisdom, Knowledge and Power of God from Within Man by : Bro. Josefino T. Rona
Download or read book Divine Indwelling: Key to the Wisdom, Knowledge and Power of God from Within Man written by Bro. Josefino T. Rona and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-06-06 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I have to write all the experiences and miracles in my life it would be volumes. All these miracles come from One Source: the power of DIVINE INDWELLING. These stories are not fictions. They are real experiences of miracles that made me write the book in order to share with people who with their FAITH can get into the Threshold of God's Presence within the soul and let the LIGHT of God's Power shine forth to drive evil away. The Truth is in the book. The Process, that even a little child can do, is in the book. But for one story among hundreds of stories, let me share this one. "A male teenager came to my office at midnight, trembling pale drunk high with drugs, carrying a knife urged by his hallucinations to kill someone, and that was me. I knew at that moment the Lord sent this poor guy to me to be healed by the power of God's Divine Indwelling. Gently yet carefully I led him to God's Presence within him, and with the power of the prayer of faith, Iby the power of God simply commanded the evil of drug addiction to leave. Right at that moment the guy was healed. The power of God in the soul of believers is truly REAL." As I said, I can share several stories of my experiences of miracles because of God's Divine Indwelling, the very "key that opens all the treasures of God's wisdom and knowledge" (Col 2:2-3) One who is serious in following what is written in this book can also see the experience of the power of God. Hence I wrote the book to help as many as are looking for hope and peace within them. Praise our awesome God.

Book Synopsis Divine Freedom and the Doctrine of the Immanent Trinity by : Paul D. Molnar
Download or read book Divine Freedom and the Doctrine of the Immanent Trinity written by Paul D. Molnar and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-02-23 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine Freedom and the Doctrine of the Immanent Trinity is widely acclaimed by scholars in the field of Christian systematic theology. Molnar's quest to place the doctrine of the immanent Trinity on the agenda of the Christian doctrine of God has proven to be a signal contribution to the debate in contemporary Christian theology. The material in this second edition has been thoroughly updated: it contains a new preface and a new introduction, as well as a revised bibliography. The book includes a brand new chapter titled 'Divine Freedom Revisited' which addresses those questions that have arisen in connection with Molnar's original presentation of the divine freedom. Molnar re-visits here his discussion of the Logos Asarkos, the theologies of Karl Rahner and Wolfhart Pannenberg. He sheds new light on Rahner's and Torrance's discussions of the Resurrection; and incorporates modern discussions by contemporary theologians to offer new insights into Eberhard Jüngel's thinking.

Book Synopsis Divine Providence and Human Agency by : Alexander S. Jensen
Download or read book Divine Providence and Human Agency written by Alexander S. Jensen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine Providence and Human Agency develops an understanding of God and God's relation to creation that perceives God as sovereign over creation while, at the same time, allowing for a meaningful notion of human freedom. This book provides a bridge between contemporary approaches that emphasise human freedom, such as process theology and those influenced by it, and traditional theologies that stress divine omnipotence. This book argues that it is essential for Christian theology to maintain that God is ultimately in charge of history: otherwise there would be no solid grounds for Christian hope. Yet, the modern human self-understanding as free agent within certain limitations must be taken seriously. Jensen approaches this apparent contradiction from within a consistently trinitarian framework. Jensen argues that a Christian understanding of God must be based on the experience of the saving presence of Christ in the Church, leading to an apophatic and consistently trinitarian theology. This serves as the framework for the discussion of divine omnipotence and human freedom. On the basis of the theological foundation established in this book, it is possible to frame the problem in a way that makes it possible to live within this tension. Building on this foundation, Jensen develops an understanding of history as the unfolding of the divine purpose and as an expression of God's very being, which is self-giving love and desire for communion. This book offers an important contribution to the debate of the doctrine of God in the context of an evolutionary universe.

Book Synopsis The Oneness and Simplicity of God by : Barry D. Smith
Download or read book The Oneness and Simplicity of God written by Barry D. Smith and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-11-13 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That YHWH is numerically one is foundational to the theology of the Hebrew Bible. Christian theologians historically have affirmed that there is a more fundamental type of oneness attributable to God. God is one not merely in the sense of being the only God, but also in the sense of being simple or non-composite, having no parts of any kind. In this way, God is said to be an absolute unity. After a consideration of all the evidence, Barry D. Smith reaches the conclusion that there is no basis for ascribing simplicity to God. The simplicity doctrine is not found in Scripture and the traditional arguments used to establish it are unconvincing. In addition, the recent defenses of the simplicity doctrine prompted by Alvin Plantinga's work Does God Have a Nature? are unsuccessful. It should not be thought, however, that the rejection of divine simplicity means that by default God must be conceived as composite, not even as a perfect composite with maximally great, God-making properties. Rather, there is a third option: God should not be conceived as either simple or composite. The question of in which mode God has attributes or exemplifies properties should be set aside.

Book excerpt: More Precisely provides a rigorous and engaging introduction to the mathematics necessary to do philosophy. It is impossible to fully understand much of the most important work in contemporary philosophy without a basic grasp of set theory, functions, probability, modality and infinity. Until now, this knowledge was difficult to acquire. Professors had to provide custom handouts to their classes, while students struggled through math texts searching for insight. More Precisely fills this key gap. Eric Steinhart provides lucid explanations of the basic mathematical concepts and sets out most commonly used notational conventions. Furthermore, he demonstrates how mathematics applies to many fundamental issues in branches of philosophy such as metaphysics, philosophy of language, epistemology, and ethics.
