Book excerpt: Eloise meets Rosemary's Baby in New York City’s very own Carlyle hotel. Seventeen-year-old Itzy Nash is spending the summer at the exclusive Carlyle hotel in New York City. But the hotel harbors more than the rich and privileged; it is host to a gorgeous fallen angel, reclusive movie stars, and—Itzy soon learns—demons of the worst sort. When the Queen of the Damned checks in, all Hell breaks loose. Itzy is called upon to save herself—and all of humanity—from the ravages of the Underworld. There’s only one problem: Itzy’s possessed. Part gothic thriller, part historical fiction, the novel straddles the Upper East Side and the lush trappings of the Carlyle hotel, and Paris during the Reign of Terror in 1789. Marie Antoinette is the Queen of the Damned. Marilyn Monroe is an expert demon hunter. To kill a demon, Hermès scarves, Evian water, and a guillotine are the weapons of choice. For anyone who loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone, this has an epic battle between angels and demons with a doomed love story at its core. But it’s also darkly funny, for fans of Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, and more than anything it’s something original—dark, funny, clever, and glamorous.

Book excerpt: Code Agni explores the Rig Veda honeycombed with many Rik Mantras structured as hymns of wisdom and sweetness. Riks are like sound pearls in a vast etheric ocean that permeate cosmic intelligence which authors and readers have translated them differently over seven hundred years. The translations presented in Code Agni are as direct as possible to the original manuscripts of Rig Veda and transliterated words and sentences accompany the verses as they unfold.

Book Synopsis Love Ya Hate Ya by : J. Normann Jørgensen
Download or read book Love Ya Hate Ya written by J. Normann Jørgensen and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume shows the formidable range of variation in youth language. Youth language is analyzed as a phenomenon in negotiations of identities and social relations. The contributions particularly concentrate on youth language in late modern urban societies. This is an area of study which has been gaining increasing attention in sociolinguistics over the past few years. One observation that is almost inevitable is that there is a string of similarities to be found between youths in quite different circumstances, ranging from university students in Argentina, to juvenile delinquents in Greece and to skaters in Greenland. A wide range of language situations are covered, from Danish, Cypriot Greek, Turkish, to Spanish, Greenlandic, Norwegian, Catalan, and of course English. The articles in this anthology document and analyze linguistic youth styles and behaviors as well as attitudes. In their totality they present a picture of youth language as functional, socially valuable, and flexible, with a special emphasis on identity negotiations.

Book Synopsis Supercomputer Algorithms for Reactivity, Dynamics and Kinetics of Small Molecules by : Antonio Laganà
Download or read book Supercomputer Algorithms for Reactivity, Dynamics and Kinetics of Small Molecules written by Antonio Laganà and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for accurate computational procedures to evaluate detailed properties of gas phase chemical reactions is evident when one considers the wealth of information provided by laser, molecular beam and fast How experiments. By stressing ordinary scalar computers to their limiting performance quantum chemistry codes can already provide sufficiently accurate estimates of the stability of several small molecules and of the reactivity of a few elementary processes. However, the accurate characterization of a reactive process, even for small systems, is so demanding in terms of computer resources to make the use of supercomputers having vector and parallel features unavoidable. Sometimes to take full advantage from these features all is needed is a restructure of those parts of the computer code which perform vector and matrix manipulations and a parallel execution of its independent tasks. More often, a deeper restructure has to be carried out. This may involve the problem of choosing a suitable computational strategy or the more radical alternative of changing the theoretical treatment. There are cases, in fact, where theoretical approaches found to be inefficient on a scalar computer exhibit their full computational strength on a supercomputer.
